Continue ReadingPrep Redzone will release an updated list of the top Class of 2022 Maryland High School football players during the month of May. In the meantime, we will spend the next several weeks doing research on prospects. This isn’t an exact science. COVID-19 shortened the season of a lot of high school football prospects in Maryland.. Some players didn’t even get to play during their junior season. Therefore, some players did not have enough film to make this initial list. Prep Redzone Maryland is always open to hear from coaches. If you know of a Class of 2022 linebackers that should be considered for this list, email us at easternparecruits@gmail.com.
No. 4 Jordan Shuler Jordan Shuler 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Gonzaga | 2022 State MD /6-2/220/OLB/Gonzaga
Shuler has offers from Army, Navy, Georgetown, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Penn.
No. 3 Kellan Wyatt Kellan Wyatt 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State MD /6-2/212/OLB/Archbishop Spalding
Maryland landed Wyatt in what I would consider early in his recruiting process. He committed to the ’Terps on Sep. 27, 2020. He had other offers from Buffalo, Liberty, and Syracuse. They cut his season to two games because of an undisclosed injury. I think his stock will go up higher once he can to display more of his pass coverage skills. Wyatt may get that chance during this summer, once colleges may have prospects on campus.
No. 2 Anto Saka Anto Saka 6'4" | 215 lbs | LB Loyola Blakefield | 2022 State MD /6-4/225/ILB/Loyola
Saka currently has over 30-plus offers. Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State, USC, Maryland, Michigan State, and Louisville are among those schools interested in Saka. He played in three games during the 2020 season before they cut his season short because of COVID-19. He’s not as explosive as Barham coming off the football and has to work on getting off blocks a bit faster.
No. 1 Jaishawn Barham Jaishawn Barham 6'3" | 230 lbs | LB St Frances | 2022 State MD /6-3/230/ILB/St. Frances
I am confident that no one is surprised at who is No. 1 on this list. I consider Barham to be one of the top two prospects from the state of Maryland. He’s one of a couple of dozen athletes from St. Frances, sprinkled all throughout the rankings. He has over 20 offers that include Penn State, Ole Miss, Rutgers, Maryland, Notre Dame, Florida State, Florida, Iowa, and Arkansas. It’s a surprise that Alabama has yet to offer.
St. Frances only played one game during the 2020-2021 season. There’s not a lot of film to go on just from that one game. His most recent highlights are from his sophomore season at DeMatha. The speed that he displays coming off the edge as a pass rusher is elite. Barham wouldn’t be the number one linebacker if he wasn’t able to defend against the pass at a high level too.
