Continue ReadingWith the summer fast approaching, some of the state’s top prospects are starting to narrow down their recruitment and decide which official visits they’ll start to take once the recruiting dead period is lifted on June 1st. Lots of players are looking forward to seeing different schools and are hoping to make their college decision soon after. Other prospects didn’t need the visits and already decided to make their college decision public.
Here are a few prospects from the peach state who recently made their college commitments…
Isaiah Bond Isaiah Bond 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Buford | 2022 State GA – ATH – Buford
One of the fastest prospects in the entire country, the Buford star wide-out saw his recruitment take off in early March when he earned offers from Georgia and Alabama. After earning an offer from Florida in early April, the 6-foot-0 175-pounder quickly grew a strong relationship with the Gators staff, and they were able to land his commitment. The explosive, playmaking athlete projects as a cornerback at the next level, but he was an outstanding deep threat in the passing game, catching multiple TD passes in their state-championship game victory last fall. The Florida Gators produce and develop outstanding receivers each and every year, and now they have one of the best from the state of Georgia on the commit list. He’s fast, explosive, and will be one of the fastest players on the team the second he steps on campus. Every team needs speed on offense, and that’s exactly what Bond will bring to the Gators offense. He might get a strong look at defensive back, but it will be hard for Dan Mullen to keep all that speed and explosiveness strictly on defense.

Holden Staes Holden Staes 6'4" | 210 lbs | TE Westminster | 2022 State GA – TE – Westminister
It’s been a wild recruitment so far for one of the top TE prospects in the state. The 6-foot-4 230-pounder from Atlanta has held major D1 offers for a while now, but decided to make a commitment early in the process to Penn State. The four-star was committed to the Nittany Lions from August 13, 2020 to February 5, 2021. After de-committing from Penn State, the Atlanta native quickly picked up an offer from Notre Dame, and that’s where everything changed. The Fighting Irish lost a commitment from a three-star peach-state TE earlier this spring, but replaced him on the commit list with Staes. He verbally committed to Notre Dame last weekend on May 8th.

Donovan Westmoreland Donovan Westmoreland 6'3" | 205 lbs | LB Griffin | 2022 State GA – LB – Griffin
We usually don’t see a ton of “flips” on the recruiting trail in the spring, but we saw it happen earlier this month when four-star linebacker Donovan Westmoreland Donovan Westmoreland 6'3" | 205 lbs | LB Griffin | 2022 State GA flipped his commitment from Georgia to South Carolina. This is a massive pickup for the Gamecocks who are in full rebuild mode and need impact defenders who can see the field early when the time comes. Westmoreland is a tackling machine in middle Georgia who tallied 84 tackles, 23 TFLs, and 12 sacks. The 6-foot-1 210-pounder is coming off a big junior season and is expected to be one of the more productive linebackers in the state once again in 2021.
