Some of the fastest and best athletes in the state participate both in football and track and field, and many of them shined during the GHSA track and field championships this past weekend.
Here are a few football standouts who dominated in the track and field championships….
Isaiah Bond Isaiah Bond 5'10" | 160 lbs | DB Buford | 2022 State GA – Buford
One of the fastest prospects in the state, the state-champion football player is now a track and field champion after coming in 1st in the 6A Boys 100-meter dash with a blazing 10.51. He showed his initial burst and explosiveness with that time, which is his biggest strength on the gridiron. He didn’t stop there, either. The Florida Gators commitment also came in 1st place in the 200-meter with an incredible 21.19 time. Once he hits his top gear, Bond knows how to stay there with his natural gliding running style. He was also part of the 1st place 4X100 relay. He has elite speed and it is going to help the Gators in both football and track and field at the next level. He truly cemented himself as one of the best and most explosive athletes in the state after this weekend’s performance.

Malaki Starks Malaki Starks 6'1" | 195 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2022 State GA – Jefferson
Maybe the most impressive performance among all the athletes who competed over the weekend, the 5-star DB and future Georgia Bulldog dominated over the weekend in just about everything he competed in. The 6-foot-2 200-pounder won the 4A state championship in the long jump with a 23-7, showing off his explosiveness. The elite athlete also showed off his speed, running a 10.55 in the 100-meter.

Sammy Brown Sammy Brown 6'2" | 225 lbs | ATH Jefferson | 2024 State GA – Commerce
One of the top 2024 prospects in the state, Brown showed off his raw strength and athleticism over the weekend. The 6-foot-1 205-pounder showed off his speed for a big guy as he won the 400-meter race with a time of 50:50. He also came in 4th in the 200-meter with a 23.01 time. Those are really impressive numbers for a future SEC-level linebacker, He’s all muscle but showed he can move as well. Look for him to have an excellent high school career both in football and track and field over the next few years.
Great day at the state track meet! 1st in the 400, 4nd in the 200, 3rd in both relays! Team won A State!

Zion Ragins Zion Ragins 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Jones County | 2024 State GA – Jones County
One of the fastest player in the state, the Middle Georgia star from Jones County had his speed on full display last season as a freshman. The 2024 wide receiver already holds an offer from Georgia, and he will likely see more coming his way after destroying his opponents on the track over the weekend. The 5-foot-11 165-pounder won the 5A state title in the 100-meter with a time of 10.67. Like Bond, he also captured the 200-meter title with an outstanding time of 21.59.

Chris Nelson – South Forsyth
One of the fastest players in 7A, Nelson is an absolute burner who took home the state title in the 200-meter with a time of 21.42. He’ll be looking for a breakout season for the War Eagles this fall as a junior and has the speed to get behind defenses with ease. He’s explosive and could see a lot of opportunities to stretch the field for South Forsyth.
STATE CHAMP ALERT! Congratulations to Sophomore Chris Nelson for winning the 200 meter finals to claim the 7A boys individual state championship! Josh Nelson had an impressive showing as well, placing 5th overall! Congrats boys! #southstrong pic.twitter.com/kFU2mB4AAc
