This time we’re taking a look at the Class of 2024 offensive standouts who impressed at the Lou Fusz Training Center, starting with a talented running back who also performed well at the PrepRedzone Missouri Showcase in late December.
Darius (DJ) Jones Darius (DJ) Jones 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Fort Zumwalt West | 2024 State MO , RB, Fort Zumwalt West, 5-9, 166
The No. 29 prospect in the Missouri 2024 rankings by PrepRedzone, Jones was among the top overall performers in December when he ran a 4.51 second (hand-timed) 40-yard dash, a 4.28 short shuttle, recorded a 33-inch vertical leap and a broad jump of 9 feet 7 inches.
His numbers this time around were similar as he recorded a 4.29 shuttle, a vertical leap of 32 1/2 inches and a broad jump of 9 feet 7 inches. His 40 times this time were down slightly. He ran the 40 in 4.78 seconds (hand-timed) and 4.93 seconds (laser).
As a freshman last fall, Jones rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries.
Sam Vu Sam Vu 5'8" | 165 lbs | ATH Rockwood Summit | 2024 State MO , WR-DB, Rockwood Summit, 5-6, 152
Like Jones, Vu was also impressive at the PrepRedzone Showcase at the end of December. Vu recorded a 4.69 (hand-timed) 40, 4.38-second shuttle, a broad jump of 9 feet 1 inches and a vertical leap of 30 1/2 inches.
On Saturday, he ran the 40 in 4.83 seconds (hand-timed) and 4.95 (laser), recorded a 4.11 shuttle, a broad jump of 9 feet 8 inches and a vertical of 31 inches.
As Vu grows and gains experience he has a chance to make a big impact on a talented Rockwood Summit squad.
Vu got some good experience on the varsity as a freshman last fall, playing cornerback, when he was credited with 19 tackles in five games.
Mason Burke Mason Burke 6'4" | 275 lbs | ATH Wentzville Holt | 2024 State MO , TE-RB-DL, Holt, 6-0, 237
Burke, ranked as the seventh-best 2024 prospect in Missouri, is a young guy with size who could end up at any number of positions in the future, from running back to tight end to defensive line or linebacker.
Burke recorded a 24-inch vertical leap and broad jump of 7 feet 6 inches on Saturday, not bad for a high school freshman who weighed in at 237 pounds.
