Their 2020 season ended earlier than expected due to Covid and missed a chance to run the tables in the PIAA Playoffs. Nothing will change for the 2021 season and you better believe they will come back hungrier than ever. Central Catholic is always loaded with talent and we take a look at their 2021 roster.
Don’t know what the QB situation will look like now that Adam Oberin is gone but know the name Brandon Pezzelle. Brandon who will be a senior got some playing time last season. Brandon has the size and shows a high, tight, quick release with good arm strength. I expect him to be the starting QB for the 2021 season.
RB: Antonio Pitts Antonio Pitts 5'10" | RB Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA 5’10; 2022
Antonio should be taking over the workload since Eddy Tillman Eddy Tillman 5'8" | 165 lbs | RB Central Catholic | 2021 PA is no longer there. Antonio is the same type of back as Eddy, quick with speed, so Central Catholic should have no problem making any changes in the running game. Since Antonio really has not had much playing time and if he wants a chance to play at the FBS level, he is really going to have to shine in his senior season.
WR: Brandon Jackson Brandon Jackson 5'7" | 160 lbs | WR Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA 5’7 160; 2022
Brandon is a small guy, but he is quick and fast. He did receive a preferred walk-on to Pitt a few weeks ago.
OL/DL: Matt Aulicino Matt Aulicino 6'7" | 240 lbs | OL Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA 6’7 220; 2022
I believe Matt is an offensive tackle, but he needs to add a lot of weight to play at the next level. He does have offers from Akron and Army.
DT: Donovan Hinish Donovan Hinish 6'2" | 270 lbs | DL Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA 6’2 270; 2022
Donovan is undersized but is a physical kid who has a really good get off with good change of direction. He received his first offer late November from Notre Dame. He has added a couple more Power 5 offers with Pitt and Virginia Tech. I would love to see him continue to dominate his senior season.
LB: Anthony Speca Anthony Speca 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2024 State PA 6’3 217; 2024
Anthony had a very impressive freshman year. Right now, he’s locked in as our 1st ranked linebacker in the 2024 class. As long as he continues to dominate, he should be one of the best linebackers from PA in his class. His first 3 offers came from Pitt, Notre Dame, and Penn State.
DB: JD Younger JD Younger 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA 5’11 190; 2022
JD is a safety. He produced the last 2 years and I expect him to continue to produce at a high level. He should be an FBS player.
DB: Devin Barren Devin Barren 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA 6’1 180; 2022
Devin has the ability to play corner and safety with his quickness, speed, and physicality. Still have concerns about his ball skills. He is an FBS prospect.
DB: Gannon Carothers Gannon Carothers 5'11" | 200 lbs | ATH Pittsburgh Central Catholic | 2022 State PA 5’11 185; 2022
Gannon has good size. He has quickness with speed. Shows to high point with good ball skills. He does need to improve as a tackler. Not much junior tape though.
ATH: Jackson Pons Jackson Pons 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Norwin | 2024 State PA 6’1 155; 2024
Jackson who transferred from Norwin stood out on film as a freshman and should be getting playing time this coming season on both sides of the ball at receiver and defensive back. He does hold an FCS offer.
