Weekly Recruiting Recap (May 3rd-9th)
Lead Story
One of the top quarterbacks in the state has decided to narrow down his offer list and start focusing on a particular eight schools. Fayette Ware (QB) Kyle Lowe Kyle Lowe 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Fayette Ware | 2022 State TN took to Twitter last week to announce his Top 8 schools and they include: Georgia St., Ga Southern, Harvard, Louisiana, Miami OH, MTSU, Navy and Southern Miss. These programs have the attention of Lowe and while he is still open to other suitors, the Wildcats star quarterback appears focused on his top eight.
Lowe is a strong armed passer that plays bigger than his size. He is more of a pocket passer than an athlete but has the skills to pick up first downs with his legs. It is unclear right now if Lowe will compete in camps next month but he will for sure take in several visits, especially with his eight top programs.
It would also not be too surprising to see a few upper level Division 1 or Power Five schools become interested as the next few months roll along. Lowe is a talented gunslinger that has all the tools to develop and succeed within the college game.
Offer King of the Week
Maryville (WR) Markel Fortenberry Markel Fortenberry 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Maryville | 2022 State TN (Offers: Akron, Georgia, St., Marshall, MTSU, UT-Martin)
– Fortenberry has been one of the hottest recruits in-state over the past month and last week he saw his best recruiting week yet by adding five college offers, which in turn has opened the eyes of several coaches around the country. The Rebels stud receiver is a big and long playmaker that has developed very well this offseason with his route running and overall quickness. Those skills should be on display next month when Fortenberry hits the road to attend multiple college camps.
Underclassman Spotlight
Nobody in this state may have a better 1-2 combo on the offensive line then the Alcoa Tornadoes as they sport two rising juniors in Lance Williams Lance Williams 6'4" | 300 lbs | OL Alcoa | 2023 State TN and Tyler Jeffries Tyler Jeffries 6'4" | 290 lbs | OL Alcoa | 2023 State TN that are both national recruits. These two big men added offers last week from West Virginia to go along with previously added Power Five offers, pushing their recruiting stocks even higher.
These are two mauling big men who love contact and will not stop until the whistle is blown. Both Williams and Jeffries looks the part and plays a certain style of football that fits on the Power Five level. When we finally reach the 2023 recruiting cycle, these will be two names everyone across the country consistently hears about.
Etc …..
– Many may already know about CPA (QB) Cade Law Cade Law 6'1" | 210 lbs | QB CPA | 2022 State TN , which we will get back to him in a second but it’s his teammate, Colin Stewart Colin Stewart 6'2" | 240 lbs | DL CPA | 2022 State TN that needs to be spotlighted first. The 6’2 240 pound versatile D-lineman picked up his first college offers last week from Air Force and Army, which should now propel his recruitment into another level with more college coaches looking in his direction. Stewart is a max effort, high motor guy that shows bend and the ability to get after the quarterback, His performance in camps this summer should go a long ways towards gaining more college interest.
Law had good recruiting week as well. He picked up another D1 offer from Akron as well as an additional one from North Alabama too. Law is a big arm passer that has multiple offers at this point along with several options on the baseball diamond as well. If Law competes at college camps next month, I would not be surprised to hear about him being a breakout prospect by summer’s end.
– 2023 Mt. Juliet (TN) offensive lineman Ayden Bussell Ayden Bussell 6'5" | 290 lbs | OL Mt. Juliet | 2023 State TN continued to see his stock rise last week by adding another Power Five offer from Tennessee and receiving a strong player rating from 247Sports. The 6’6 raw but talented lineman now has three SEC offers from the Vols, Kentucky and Vanderbilt and could be on the verge of adding many more.
– Three 2022 prospects finally saw their first college offers arrive last week and it just may be the kick start these guys need to enhance their recruitment’s. Oakland (RB/S) Antonio Patterson Antonio Patterson 5'11" | 190 lbs | ATH Oakland | 2022 State TN landed an offer from UT-Martin, Franklin Road Acad. (DT) Josiah Jackson Josiah Jackson 6'1" | 285 lbs | DL FRA | 2022 State TN picked up an offer from Davidson and Lausanne (LB) Ben Bolton Ben Bolton 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Lausanne | 2022 State TN added his 1st college offer from Morehead State.
All three of these players are talented young men that should have already had their first offers in hand but now that they are here, it should be the spark needed to see other schools show interest and eventually offer as well.
