Now that they are some of the most experienced players in the locker room, they have to exert more of a leadership presence. Nowhere are these statements more apparent than with the quarterback position. It is up to these rising quarterbacks to take ownership of everything that happens offensively and to take on a bigger leadership role. Indiana has four quarterbacks at the top of the Class of 2023 that are ready to step-up. All of these four are on the cusp of huge seasons this fall.
Carson Parmer Carson Parmer 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB South Decatur | 2023 State IN , 6’3, 195 pounds, South Decatur
Carson Parmer Carson Parmer 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB South Decatur | 2023 State IN is everything that a college coach could want in a quarterback. He has great arm strength. Parmer can make all of the throws necessary. Parmer also shows really good composure and he does a good job getting the offense organized at the line of scrimmage before the snap. Parmer also has the athleticism necessary to excel at the next level. He makes accurate and on-time throws while on the run. An underrated element of Carson Parmer Carson Parmer 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB South Decatur | 2023 State IN ’s game is his ability to take snaps from under center. This is something that a lot of quarterbacks do not have much experience doing anymore, so Parmer is a step ahead of most, in that category.
Cameron Tilly Cameron Tilly 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Castle | 2023 State IN , 6’3, 185 pounds, Castle
Cameron Tilly Cameron Tilly 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Castle | 2023 State IN is a quarterback who has the perfect blend of talent and discipline. Tilly has great arm and strength and I am particularly impressed by his deep ball. He does a good job leading the receiver, allowing a big play to turn into a huge play. Tilly also has great mechanics. His foot work is really solid and he handles himself well in the pocket. Tilly steps up in the pocket nicely and he steps into his throws, avoiding dangerous throws off his back foot and allowing himself to drive the football to his target. Cameron Tilly Cameron Tilly 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Castle | 2023 State IN is somebody that a coach can trust in big moments in the game.
Nicholas Patterson Nicholas Patterson 6'2" | 225 lbs | QB Mooresville | 2023 State IN , 6’2, 220 pounds, Mooresville
Nicholas Patterson Nicholas Patterson 6'2" | 225 lbs | QB Mooresville | 2023 State IN is a dynamic quarterback who is capable of hurting a defense in a plethora of ways. Patterson has good arm strength. He puts good drive into all of his throws. Patterson sees the field very well when he is getting ready to throw. He reads the coverage, goes through his progressions and makes the right decision on the throw. Nicholas Patterson Nicholas Patterson 6'2" | 225 lbs | QB Mooresville | 2023 State IN is tremendous at finding ways to buy time in the pocket. He can make pass rushers miss and escape sack attempts. Patterson is also a threat on the ground. Either on designed quarterback runs or when he improvises, Nicholas Patterson Nicholas Patterson 6'2" | 225 lbs | QB Mooresville | 2023 State IN can still find a way to make an explosive play happen.
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Parke Heritage | 2023 State IN , 6’1, 195 pounds, Parke Heritage
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Parke Heritage | 2023 State IN could best be categorized as a defensive coordinator’s worst nightmare. Johnson is a very accurate passer and he can make throws to any spot on the field. Johnson has a short throwing motion. This makes it extremely difficult on the pass rush, both to force fumbles and to get to the quarterback at all as he is able to get the ball out quickly. Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'1" | 195 lbs | QB Parke Heritage | 2023 State IN also the ability to improvise and make an explosive play happen. He can make pass rushers miss, therefore, extending the play and finding a receiver down the field for a big play. Johnson can also take off and pick up yardage with his legs. He is also exceptional on designed quarterback runs. Johnson has outstanding speed and he can outrun any defender.
These four players are incredibly fun to watch. It is difficult to believe that they are only half way through their high school careers. Even more mind-boggling is the realization that each of these student-athletes will only continue to improve. Each of these guys can make a serious impact with a college program. I believe that all four will grab the attention of plenty of recruiters this fall.
