Multiple players have already emerged in recruiting circles as some of the best athletes at their position in the NATION.
With our initial watchlist for 2023, we found many talented guys who had already made a name for themselves. As the year continues to progress, we are excited to keep finding more talent and add even more names to our rankings! With that being said, here is our new top 10 prospects in the 2023 class entering the summer.
1. Suntarine Perkins Suntarine Perkins 6'1" | 190 lbs | ATH Raleigh | 2023 State MS | WR | Raleigh
Perkins has been one of the most dominant athletes in recent Mississippi high school football. At 6’3″ 200, he has prototypical college size for multiple positions. Perkins plays both WR and DB, and his future could be on either side of the ball. As a receiver, he runs well in space, has a fluid release off the line of scrimmage, and makes 50/50 balls 100/0 balls. This is guy is as talented as they come. Perkins already has offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgia, Florida, and LSU among others.
2. Malik Ellis Malik Ellis 6'4" | 235 lbs | OL Laurel | 2023 State MS | OL | Laurel
In a loaded offensive line class, Malik Ellis Malik Ellis 6'4" | 235 lbs | OL Laurel | 2023 State MS stands out as one of the most agile linemen in the state. Ellis stands at 6’4″ 230 with plenty of room to grow and add weight. Ellis is light on his feet and plays extremely well in pass protection. Ellis also has the ability to bend and sink his hips extremely low. He pulls well and can play in space. Ellis is a modern day spread coach’s dream as a future left tackle. He already lists offers from Oregon, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss.
3. Zay Alexander Zay Alexander 6'6" | 315 lbs | OL Tupelo | 2023 State MS | OL | Tupelo
At 6’7″ 350, Zay Alexander Zay Alexander 6'6" | 315 lbs | OL Tupelo | 2023 State MS is one of the players in the state. We had eyes on him earlier this year, but he has recently blown up as a prospect. Alexander has the body and athleticism to be a dominant right or left tackle at the next level. He plays well in the pass game, but can also turn into a complete road grader in the run game. This is a naturally strong kid whose best football is ahead of him. There doesn’t look to be a defender in the state that can blow by him or push him over. Alexander lists offers from Florida, Texas, Oregon, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.
4. Jamarious Brown Jamarious Brown 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Moss Point | 2023 State MS | DL | Moss Point
One of the state’s top defenders, Jamarious Brown Jamarious Brown 6'4" | 255 lbs | DL Moss Point | 2023 State MS has been on the recruiting scene for a while now. Brown has the body type to continue playing end, or move out to outside linebacker and play a hybrid role. He has a great first step and a variety of pass rush moves to get after the quarterback. What stands out most about him is his shear strength that he displays on tape. Brown can bully any offensive lineman and can make big time plays against the run. Currently, he lists offers from Arizona State, Florida, Mississippi State and Ole Miss,
5. Tabias Hinton Tabias Hinton 6'3" | 220 lbs | DL Hattiesburg | 2023 State MS | DL | Hattiesburg
Hinton was statistically one of the best players in the entire state of Mississippi last year. With 18.5 sacks as a sophomore, Hinton is by far the best pass rusher in the 2023 class. At 6’3″ 220, Hinton has great length in his arms and the body type to keep adding weight. Hinton has a quick step and bends well of the edge in pursuit of the quarterback. He is physical at the point of attack and can take over games. With his athleticism, he could end up being a Von Miller type outside linebacker who can come down and put his hand in the dirt too. Hinton lists offers from Michigan, Southern Miss, and Mississippi State.
6. Ayden Williams Ayden Williams 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Ridgeland | 2023 State MS | WR | Ridgeland
Williams is another player who hasn’t been a stranger to the recruiting world. He has preformed exceptionally well this offseason at camps and at 7v7 tournaments. At Ridgeland, he plays the outside receiver role and his future lies there as well. Williams is a long strider who can take the top off of a defense and use his soft hands to come down with anything thrown his way. He is also dangerous after the catch in the open field. Williams holds offers from Oregon, Ole Miss, Florida State, and Mississippi State.
7. Ty Jones Ty Jones 6'2" | 200 lbs | RB Bay Springs | 2023 State MS | RB | Bay Springs
The first running back off the board is a Ty Jones Ty Jones 6'2" | 200 lbs | RB Bay Springs | 2023 State MS . Jones has been a varsity starter since his freshman year of high school and has had big years in both years starting. He has elite size at 6’2″ 200, but also has the speed and power to dominate in any offense. Jones is naturally strong and can blow through tacklers with ease. He also has value as a pass catcher and has the endurance to touch the ball the entire game. Jones lists offers from Indiana, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss.
8. Isaac Smith Isaac Smith 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Itawamba Agricultural | 2023 State MS | ATH | Itawamba Agricultural
A versatile playmaker, Isaac Smith Isaac Smith 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Itawamba Agricultural | 2023 State MS lines up at WR on offense and at DB on defense. Smith is also a two sport athlete who plays basketball in the offseason of football. Smith has great size for either position at 6’2″ 180, and may find his future at safety specifically. In space, Smith runs well and can cover a ton of ground quickly. He has tremendous ball skills and can bait opposing quarterbacks into crucial mistakes. DBs like him are hard to find. Smith holds offers from West Virginia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Notre Dame.
9. D’Mariun Perteet D’Mariun Perteet 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB South Panola | 2023 State MS | RB | South Panola
South Panola is historically home to many great backs. D’Mariun Perteet D’Mariun Perteet 5'10" | 200 lbs | RB South Panola | 2023 State MS is the next one in line. Perteet is a traditional running back who runs hard in between the tackles, but can also make people miss in space. He shows the ability to carry a big workload and produce on any carry. Perteet has good breakaway speed and is a threat in the open field. Once he gets going, he is gone. Perteet currently lists an offer from Arkansas.
10. Antonio Kennedy Antonio Kennedy 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Choctaw County | 2023 State MS | RB | Choctaw County
Although he is a bit of a sleeper right now, Choctaw County’s Antonio Kennedy Antonio Kennedy 6'0" | 200 lbs | RB Choctaw County | 2023 State MS is one of the best backs in Mississippi. He has a thick build that allows him to bully defenders in between the tackles, but he can also catch out of the backfield and be explosive in space. Kennedy tops things off by having a nasty stiff arm move and quick feet. He runs well through contact and dominates anybody who tries to make a tackle on him. Kennedy lists no offers currently, but that should change soon.
This is a great class in Mississippi with a ton of names to know. Keep an eye out for more evaluations of this year’s great class!
