Continue ReadingThe class of 2023 is loaded with good talent, which leaves some talent oftentimes overlooked, or as the kids say, “slept on”. Here are a few of the sleepers in the 2023 class. Some of these are on our initial 2023 rankings, while others are being considered for our update.
Dinwiddie OL Collen Jackson Collen Jackson 6'6" | 325 lbs | OL Dinwiddie | 2023 State VA
Jackson may be the least of a “sleeper” on this list as he has really exploded onto the scene in the last month, Jackson, the 35th-ranked player in our initial 2023 rankings, sits at 6’6″, 330lbs lineman. Over the course of the month of May Jackson really showed out at camps. Jackson is still searching for his first offers but with more stellar months like Jackson had in May, those should be cooling soon.

Maury (Norfolk) WR Peyton Jones Peyton Jones 5'11" | 180 lbs | WR Maury | 2023 State VA
Maury, the wide receiver factory in Norfolk, has another one in Peyton Jones Peyton Jones 5'11" | 180 lbs | WR Maury | 2023 State VA , our 19th overall recruit in our initial 2023 rankings, and top wideout. Jones is 5’11” and 180lbs and can go up and get the ball with the best of them. Jones, who carries a 3.5 GPA has offers from Maryland, Old Dominion, Liberty, and UVA. Jones is still yet to really breakout though, so it’s scary to think about how many more offers the WR could get as he should be a key cog for Maury as they try to get back to the state title game in 2021’s fall season after coming up short in the spring.
Kecoughtan (Hampton) TE/DE David Anderson David Anderson 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Kecoughtan | 2023 State VA
Anderson is still making his splash onto the recruiting scene after a very short spring season due to COVID protocols and a new head coach at Kecoughtan. Anderson also plays tight end and could be just as good of a recruit on that side of the ball. With a 3.9+ GPA, there are many doors open for Anderson as he could also be recruited by non-scholarship programs such as Ivy League schools.
Anderson has been showing off on the camp circuit lately and at 6’4″ and 235lbs, there is a lot to show off. Anderson also shows up on the basketball court, showing his speed and agility.
Anderson holds offers from Syracuse, Old Dominion, and William and Mary.
Oscar Smith (Chesapeake) OL Brock Stukes
Stukes, a newly-minted state champion is part of a great core at Oscar Smith. At 6’2″ and 294lbs, Stukes has great size and just needs time to get the eye of coaches.
Stukes was part of a great offensive line that opened holes for backs and held off opposing rushers for Ethan Vasko Ethan Vasko 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Oscar Smith | 2022 State VA in an absolutely dominant 2021 spring season that saw Smith win their first title in a decade. With more time and development, Stukes could be the next big-time recruit from Oscar Smith.
Over the past weekend, Stukes had a great showing at the first William and Mary prospect camp.

Varina (Richmond) WR Kaveion Keys
Keys, another recruit who had a great showing at the Saturday session at William and Mary is out of Varina and boasts a 6’3″ frame to go along with a 3.0 GPA. The rising junior is looking to gain his first offer and if he competes like he did at camp, he will see it soon. Keys ran a 4.65 40-yard dash on his first try and had an 8’9″ broad jump on his second try. In 1-on-1s, Keys showed strong hands and good moves. Keys could be a great addition for an FBS or FCS squad but they will want to get in on his soon before a full fall season.
I want to see more of Keys, as I suspect other coaches do also but from what I’ve seen so far, he looks to be a solid FCS/G5 wide receiver.
Smithfield OL Justin Goodin
Goodin has good size for a rising junior at 6’3″ and 265lbs. With a shortened season at Smithfield and multiple COVID interruptions, Goodin didn’t get a chance to accurately display what he can do last season, so this coming fall will be huge for his recruiting and his development.
Goodin ran a 5.1 40-yard dash at the recent William and Mary camp, which for an OL isn’t too far off from what you would want. Goodin has no offers yet, but with more camps like this, he should see his first come in soon.
Thanks for a great day of work at the 2020 Clash of the Titan's @Recruit757 @804football I know @JustinGoodin1 picked up some good tips and showed pretty good for a rising sophomore!!@CoachBazemore
