Continue ReadingI watched a lot of good football games this spring but didn’t get to see a ton of freshmen. Which is why I was excited to see Prep Redzone’s updated class of 2024 rankings.
The rankings were released recently and here are my thoughts on the few players from Orange County who made the rankings and the watch list.
Note: This list excludes players from Mater Dei. I previously broke down the players who were ranked from Mater Dei in this two part feature. Part one. Part two.
Emmett Mosley Emmett Mosley 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Santa Margarita Catholic | 2024 State CA is a receiver and defensive back from Servite who impresses me more and more each time I watch his film. He has the speed to be a deep threat and already has the ability to win jump balls like an upperclassman. If you throw it within five yards of him, he is coming down with the ball. He has offers from a lot of major schools already like Alabama and will be a lot of fun to watch this fall.

Kobe Boykin Kobe Boykin 5'9" | 175 lbs | RB Los Alamitos | 2024 CA is ranked too low on the list at No. 20 in my opinion. He has all the tools and his speed and agility are comparable to higher-ranked prospects. He can make plays with the ball as a running back but what impressed me the most was his ability as a lockdown cornerback. I saw him at a game where I was excited to see him face off with top-ranked Ryan Pellum Ryan Pellum 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Millikan | 2024 State CA of Millikan, but Millikan never let Pellum run in Boykin’s direction. Boykin also shut down Arizona recruit Tacario Davis Tacario Davis 6'3" | 185 lbs | DB Millikan | 2022 State CA in that game. Pellum is special and he’s the best public school player in the county for his class.

A lot of freshman outside backers are just speedsters who can rush the passer. Gage Burnett Gage Burnett 6'1" | 230 lbs | LB Santa Margarita Catholic | 2024 State CA is much more than that. He drops into zone coverage very well and has great football instincts. He has multiple pass rushing moves that are effective and can tackle elite players in the Trinity League. He is also a 4.33 GPA guy and has an early offer from Arizona. Burnett will be a national recruit after a strong sophomore season this fall.
Extremely blessed to announce that I have received my first scholarship offer from my dad’s alma mater, the University of Arizona! @FBCoachDBrown @CoachJeddFisch @ServiteFootball @ArizonaFBall @CoachTThom @lesfifita @RyanWrightRNG @latsondheimer @GregBiggins @Chesterburnett pic.twitter.com/1EV51Av3tj

Syncere Brackett Syncere Brackett 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Centennial | 2024 State CA really impressed me last spring with how versatile he is as a linebacker. He is already 220 pounds and can play inside or outside backer. He was one of the best defensive players on a Trinity League team as a freshman which is impressive. He can stop the run, rush the passer and play well in zone coverage. He’s a stud athlete and his upside is off the charts.
