Continue ReadingThis past Saturday I made my way down to Waco, TX for the Baylor Team Camp which had lots of talent in attendance. Here is a list of the guys that stood out that I got a good chance to see.
Gerrod Henderson – 2022 DT – Spring, TX (Spring) –
I know, I know, this is the 2nd team camp in a row I have been too that I have talked about Henderson but I can say without a doubt he was once again the top defensive tackle at the camp, again. Showing an array of rush moves with his quicks/explosiveness off the ball, hand usage and impressive agility, Henderson put on a dominant performance Saturday. As you see in the 2nd tweet below, it’s not often you see a DT hit a double counter like this and do it as smoothly as he did. He continued, like he did at the SMU and TCU camp to get more reps than any other defensive lineman at the camp as well as leading every drill. He also hit an impressive 32-inch vertical at 6-foot-3 and 260-pounds. The McNeese State commit has started to pull in more offers and I won’t be surprised if Baylor follows suit with what he showed Saturday.

This is a filthy move by @HendersonGerrod as he hits a double counter for the W. Some smooth, quick COD here. pic.twitter.com/eYhf1j8d5u

Jamarcus Carprew – 2022 DE – Waco, TX (Waco) –
Carprew is a really intriguing prospect on film that I was really looking forward to seeing this past Saturday. And man he did not disappoint. When I got to see him up close you could see the length he brings with long arms on his 6-foot-3 and 230-pound frame. This guy could be 255-260 easy in no time once he gets into a college program. With this being the first camp of the year for him some of the drills were a bit foreign for him but once they got into the rush drills and 1v1s you could see his natural ability take over. His speed off the edge was impressive to watch but he also showed he can beat OTs with more than just speed as he set up multiple counters on the day. He has been under the radar but don’t think that will remain the case after the performance he put on Saturday.
2022 Waco, TX (Waco) DE Jamarcus Carprew (@Jamarcus4vegas) shows off the athleticism and violent hands he brings here. Don’t 😴 on this one. @Coach_Holcomb @l_heldt pic.twitter.com/oswP3ReSI9

2022 Waco, TX DE @Jamarcus4vegas had himself a day during 1v1s. Showed nice counter moves to the inside and the outside. His speed, hands and agility made him tough to deal with off the edge. pic.twitter.com/WJTZBb3hif

Nice peek-a-boo move here by 2022 Waco, TX (Waco) DE @Jamarcus4vegas with the inside-out move from this past Sat. Like I said, he had a day. @Coach_Holcomb @l_heldt pic.twitter.com/M2LMKGTA69

Tyler Turner – 2023 S – San Antonio, TX (Brennan) –
Saturday was the first up close look I’ve been able to get of Turner and as you can see in the tweets below, I came away really impressed with what I saw. He has good size at 6-foot and 183-pounds with plenty of room to add to that. His backpedal could use some work but as a safety that’s not the most shocking but do like how low he stays in his pedal and in transition. Showed quick feet with the ability to quickly flip his hips. His speed and change of direction then allowed him to stay in WRs back pockets all day to help pick up multiple wins in 1v1s. He also put up a 33-inch vertical during testing that day. With what he shows on film mixed with the overall feel he showed in coverage whether in press or off man Saturday, Turner brings a versatile skill set at the S position that can allow him to be used in different ways. He doesn’t hold any offers yet which is really surprising to me but don’t expect that be the story much longer.

Dejuan Lewis – 2022 S – Pearland, TX (Shadow Creek) –
Lewis was another safety that had my attention on the day. At 5-foot-11 and 185-pounds he has a good physique already and man did he make a bunch of plays on the ball. Whether it was showing off the recovery speed he has and coming down with an interception or showing he can flip his hips with the speed to stay in phase on the WR before going up and deflecting the ball, Lewis was a playmaker nearly every rep I saw. Then again in the 7v7 portion you see him show off the range he has and those ball skills show up again on the nice interception he came down with. Air Force and Nevada are his only offers at this point and like Turner, don’t expect that to remain much longer.
Think I got some clips of him but 2022 Pearland, TX (Shadow Creek) S Dejuan Lewis (@Itsthatboyjuan) is another that made plays on the ball. Every time I saw him he was either coming down with a pick or a PBU.

Seth Martin – 2022 OG/C – Everman, TX (Everman) –
When registration was going on I noticed Martin in line and thought to myself, that’s a mean lookin offensive lineman right there. But I’ll be honest, I didn’t know it was Martin until later on in the day. He measured in at a solid 6-foot-3 and 293-pounds on Saturday. I already knew he was strong as an ox and was a people mover as a run blocker based off his film but didn’t know how he would fare in the passing game due to the majority of clips on his film are in the running game. But I came away impressed with what I saw. Now his hands are raw as they just go all over the place at this point but when they do land, their is definite power there. He is really strong at the point of attack making him difficult to move and this was against some defensive lineman with size and power in their hands. But what really stood out to me though was his quick feet and agility he displayed allowing him to mirror, recover or wash out rushers. He took reps at both OG and C on the day and really fared well at both. He holds offers from programs like UNT, Furman and Lamar for example but is a definite FBS prospect with lots of potential.

Grayson Medford – 2022 WR – Katy, TX (Seven Lakes) –
I had never seen or heard of this young man leading up to this camp but as I sat down to watch the 1v1 session I kept seeing him getting easy victories with some impressive plucks on the ball. Talk about quickness, big time speed and impressive route running ability which made the 5-foot-11 and 175-pound WR basically impossible to cover on the day. Each rep just looked so effortless with how easily he creates separation with his sudden change of direction and body control. On top of that he showed he can get off the ground with some balls that were nearly over thrown that he went up and got showing the soft hands he has. With what I saw Saturday, it is a major head scratcher that Medford has zero offers at any level at this point.
Had a great time at the Baylor camp! Thanks @ChansiStuckey @CoachShawnBell pic.twitter.com/o3iLKY7EWe

Michael Reemts – 2022 C – Celina, TX (Celina) –
I had seen Reemts at the TrappinInTheTrenches Camp earlier this year and came away really impressed with what I saw. He looks bigger than the 6-foot-3 and 287-pounds he measured in at. During testing I watched him do his vertical and was impressed with his explosiveness. He later let me know he hit 28.5-inches which is really impressive at his size. Once we got to 1v1s I knew with the talent that was at hand on the defensive line that it was going to be fun to watch Reemts reps with how the kid battles. And like I thought, he performed well. He is strong and gritty with the ability to anchor but at one point he faced the best defensive tackle at the camp in Gerrod Henderson who beat him on the 1st of 2 reps. Once the rep was over Offensive Line Coach Matteos let him know he was trying to win with brute strength and to move his feet. On the next rep he listened and moved those feet delivering the best rep of the day we saw by anyone vs Henderson getting a W. With zero offers at this point and from what I have seen of him up close, Reemts is definitely being slept on.
Other Notables –
James Dawn James Dawn 6'3" | 310 lbs | OL New Braunfels | 2022 State TX – 2022 OG/C – New Braunfels, TX (New Braunfels) –
At 6-foot-3 and 310-pounds with a barrel chest, Dawn has the look of a mauler. During drills though he showed he also moves well as you see in the pulling drill below changing directions and working to the second level. He is powerful and shows he can roll those hips which he showed during 1v1s as well.
2022 New Braunfels, TX OG James Dawn (@jamesda04) was impressive during this pulling drill. See the quick feet off the snap and power he generates bringing those hips and hands through the bag. pic.twitter.com/lmCOqmVLZH

Michael Madrie Michael Madrie 6'4" | 225 lbs | DL Argyle | 2023 State TX – 2023 DE/DT – Argyle, TX (Argyle) –
Madrie has a big, long frame at 6-foot-4 and 235-pounds that he looks to still be growing into. During drills he displayed heavy hands and had his fair share of good reps during 1v1s. At times he looked explosive off the ball and decisive leading to some victories. Then at other times you would see him counter when he really didn’t need to. Being a 2023 prospect he has just finished his Sophomore year so he is still learning and there is a lot to like.
