As a result of this, they found themselves with a 9-3 record by the end of the season, with a shot at the playoffs. In the playoffs, they made it all the way to the 4th round, where they fell to Jefferson High School. In this match up, the Cadets lost 42-35, in what can be seen to have been a close game. As the 2021 season approaches, Benedictine fans should be excited due to the fact that a majority of the team’s key players will be returning. This includes that of their starting QB, and other key role players. Below, we made sure to make a note of each of the prospects you should check out before the season roles around, because you won’t want to miss some of this talent.
Holden Geriner Holden Geriner 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB Benedictine | 2022 State GA – QB
One of the things that leaps off of the screen about Geriner is his arm strength, and arm talent. This can be seen in the ways he is able to fit the ball into tight windows, and throw the ball with velocity on passes that are at various levels of the field. He has good accuracy on intermediate passes, and his consistency when letting the ball fly downfield on deep passes is also very impressive. Geriner also does a decent job of processing the game and his reads, along with setting his feet, and getting the ball out of his hands quickly. To improve in his game, we would love to see him work on the overall mechanics of his throwing motion, because at times, it can be a bit inconsistent, causing inaccuracy. All in all, we are very impressed with his talent, and it comes as no shocker that he is an Auburn commit at this stage of his career.
Hunter Dunn- SB / DB
Dunn is not only a very versatile prospect, but his talent has not even peaked yet. Not only is he efficient on both sides of the ball, but he also does a decent job of being a key role player for his team. On offense, he not only runs the ball well when he has it in his hands, but he also turns the corner with good velocity, and uses his vision to help him find creases. His balance also plays a big part in his success as well, as he is able to stay on his feet, handle contact, and even deliver blows at times as well. This translates well to his defensive play, as he is not afraid of contact, and using his strength and leverage to bring receivers or ball carriers to the ground. On the defensive side of the ball, he also shows that he has decent movement skills, and that he is fully capable of playing well in space, and taking good angles. As next season approaches, we are excited to see what role he will begin to play with his team.
Ben Hollerbach- DB
Perhaps one of the more underrated players on his team, Hollerbach also happens to be one of the most productive players that the Cadets have on their defensive side of the ball. He plays well in zone coverage, and adjusts well in space to receiver’s routes. Not only does he play disciplined football, but he has the range, and length to make plays all over the field. This can be seen in his large amount of pass breakups, and in the way he is able to stick close to receivers, which ends up disrupting their routes. Hollerbach also has a good bit of strength in his lower body, and he does good job of rolling his hips and translating this power into tackles. He takes good angles when coming downhill as well, and his spacial awareness also allows him to use his ball skills to his own advantage. Next season, look for Hollerbach to have a breakout season.
Holden Sapp- LB
As a LB, Sapp has decent bend in his stance, but can play a bit stiff at times, which ends up causing him to have a lot of wasted movement. This can be seen as he bursts off of the edge to make tackles and get to ball carriers. Even though his speed can help him out in these scenarios, we would certainly like to see him work on his footwork, and us of hands. Nevertheless, Sapp proves to have a good understanding of the game. He plays aggressive and finds ways to get to the football. When around the football, he has power, and pop on contact. He uses this to his advantage as he comes downhill and makes tackles in the run. In 2021, we think he can continue to step up to the plate for the Cadets, but will need to work on his overall movement skills, especially his lateral movement.
