1. Bo Edmundson Bo Edmundson 6'3" | 185 lbs | QB Lake Travis | 2023 State TX – Lake Travis High School (Austin, TX)
Anyone named District 26-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year is sure to turn some heads and he already has. Edmundson has offers from the likes of Kentucky, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Penn State and Purdue. On top of these early accomplishments, he also threw for 1,409 yards, 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions in the 2020 season. Over the summer, he has also worked to improve on his skills by attending both the Penn State and Oklahoma State camps. Looking at his tape, he is laser-focused even when the pocket is collapsing, allowing him to make tight throws under pressure, which given the district he is in, plays huge into the potential success Lake Travis has in the next two years of having him. A unique quality about him is he also has learned the craft of not looking at his target receiver at the beginning of the play, thus making defensive backs lower their guard, allowing him to throw deep balls without a sweat. Edmundson is already among the best in Texas as he ranks the highest in Prep Redzone TX’s Class of 2023 rankings, but the best is likely yet to come for him, which should terrify opposing defenses and excite scouts.
2. Austin Novosad Austin Novosad 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Dripping Springs | 2023 State TX – Dripping Springs High School (Dripping Springs, TX)
Also named an Offensive Newcomer of the Year last year, just for District 12-5A-I, Novosad is much like Edmundson just under the 5A category. He has already received his first offer from Baylor and has attended a camp at Texas A&M. He also threw for 2,887 yards, 36 touchdowns with just six interceptions in the 2020 season. Novosad has an arm a lot like Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and accuracy that is reflective of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. His tape showcases both his deep ball and his accuracy despite what kind of coverage the defensive backs are in. Simply put, he can make a lot of different kinds of throws even under pressure. Both Edmundson and Novosad have so much potential that it is almost required to watch these players the next couple of years.
3. Mason Shorb Mason Shorb 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Rouse | 2023 State TX – Rouse High School (Leander, TX)
Shorb is another Offensive Newcomer of the Year but for District 13-5A-II. He also helped his team on one of the best seasons Rouse has had thus far, going undefeated in district play and going deep into the playoffs last season. For Shorb, he threw for 3,100 yards, 39 touchdowns and eight interceptions last year. Shorb does not currently have any offers but that will likely change soon. Shorb’s tape displays not only his throwing skills but also his mobility. If the pocket is collapsing, he can also tuck the ball in and charge ahead to gain yards instead of losing them. He can also throw under pressure, especially in scoring position. The trio of Edmundson, Novosad and Shorb is scary, to say the least.
4. Chris Irving Chris Irving 6'2" | 180 lbs | QB Veterans Memorial | 2023 State TX – Veterans Memorial High School (San Antonio, TX)
Last but not least, Irving’s tape also showcases a quarterback that can throw the deep ball. On top of this, he is arguably the most mobile quarterback on this list with such speed and athleticism that makes him hard to catch if he can make it past the defensive line. Irving is both fast and slippery, but he also has a great arm. If he is in scoring position, Irving is a dangerous QB draw or option-play quarterback.
