Many of these young men do not yet have film available but showed plenty of potential in the Wednesday afternoon session at Rocori High School. It will be fun to see these guys after the 2021 season to see how they turned out based on our first looks!
Sebastian Novak, DB, Rocori (2023) | 2019 Tape
Sebastian was a prospect I learned about early in Day Three and came away really impressed with this young man’s skill set. He is not the biggest defensive back in the world, but he’s well put-together for his size. He impressed me most with his ability to flip his hips and was able to turn in any direction he wanted to with the same athletic ability from both angles.
Sebastian was out for the 2020 season due to injury, but with what I could find from the 2019 season, this young man has some promise, especially at tailback. I would describe him as a slippery back with an explosive burst when he sees what he wants between the tackles. He also, for his size, does a nice job shedding off contact. He is a prospect that should get more reps in the 2021 season and hopefully develop some interest from some college programs because the potential is surely there.
Will Steil, DB, Rocori (2024) | Twitter
Will was one of the youngest prospects from this group that I became a fan of in the DB group. For a freshman, I thought he moved well laterally and showed a fluid hip turn when in pursuit of the football.
Steil doesn’t have any film available as of yet, but be sure to keep an eye out on this kid in the coming years, as he has plenty of time left to show more of what he offers for the Rocori Spartans.
Jacob Lopau, DL, Rocori (2023) | Twitter
Attention college coaches, there is a 6’7 lineman from the Rocori Spartans that you probably don’t know about yet, and his name is Jacob Lopau. Lopau certainly looked raw from my eyes at the defensive combine on Wednesday, but what he did show is a solid bend and good attacking ability from a physicality standout. He still has some filling out to do in the weight room, but look for this kid to be a prospect to know in the next year or so.
Gabe Johnson, DB, Rocori (2023)
From what I could see from Gabe, he looked to have one of the faster hip turns from the DB group as I watched all three groups as evenly as I could. If you haven’t figured out by now from my content this week, the Spartans have a lot of competition at the defensive back position over the coming years, which I know for sure some of these young men like Johnson could turn into the next great one once we get more film available from their junior seasons.
Jaden Lopau, DB, Rocori (2023)
The Lopau brothers turned two in this first looks article, as we learned about Jaden Lopau as well on Wednesday afternoon at Rocori. The biggest difference is Jaden is the smaller of the two but showed a terrific get-up in his burst from what I watched on Wednesday. Another kid we will have to stay tuned on via film.
Adam Langer, DB, Rocori (2023)
Adam made probably one of the most impressive grabs I saw from this group. He showed a solid vertical in the air and had a good ability to high-top the football from a tough angle right along the sidelines. He showed the discipline to maintain his footwork to make a clean grab on the interception. I also was really impressed with Langer from a size perspective. Langer might the most varsity-ready prospect from this list at the defensive back position from my eyes.
