Players are staying as active as ever, and this is the time of the year when schools start to get some 7-on-7 work in across the state. With more offenses throwing the ball around, 7-on-7 is a great way for QBs and their WRs to build some chemistry and develop together in the off-season. It also gives defensive backs a chance to refine their skills and line up against some tough competition in the off-season. The Corky Kell 7-on-7 tournament is one of the biggest in the entire off-season, and this year’s tournament will feature some of the state’s best QBs and WRs.
Here are a few QBs to know about in this weekend’s tournament
Gunner Stockton Gunner Stockton 6'1" | 220 lbs | QB Rabun County | 2022 State GA – Rabun County
The best QB in the tournament, the 5-star from North Georgia is looking to shred opposing defenses in hopes of bringing home the championship. He’s a big 7-on-7 guy anyway and has participated in those types of tournaments all year with his Hustle INC. team. His quick release, high football IQ, and overall arm talent should allow him to have a big weekend with his Rabun County receivers. He’ll be a fun QB to watch for this weekend.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA – Brookwood
An elite two-sport athlete for the Broncos, the 2023 gunslinger is one of the nation’s best in his class. The big-armed passer at 6-foot-1 195-pounds recently earned an offer from the Ohio State Buckeyes, so you know he’s one of the nation’s best. Look for him to sling the ball downfield early and often this weekend.
Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA – Collins Hill
Another two-sport star, Horn is coming off an incredible junior season for the Eagles where he threw for over 3,900 yards and 41 TDs. He’s accurate on short and underneath passes, but he also knows how to push the ball deep down the field. He’s a big, long-armed kid at 6-foot-4 190-pounds who can really put some zip on the ball. He’s a top-100 player in the country and the No.2 ranked QB prospect in the state of Georgia. Look for Horn and the Eagles to be one of the favorites to win the entire tournament on Friday.
AJ Swann – Cherokee
We’ve written about Swann multiple times now, and it’s because he’s one of the most improved QBs in the state over the last few years. The big 6-foot-3 200-pounder is a Maryland commitment and saw his stock soar after a big junior season where he threw for over 2,500 yards and 23 touchdowns. He can dissect a defense and hit just about any pass you could ask from him. He’s accurate and his style of play really translates well to the 7-on-7 field.
Justin Johnson Justin Johnson 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Central Gwinnett | 2023 State GA – Central Gwinnett
It wasn’t a great year for the Black Knights in 2020, but this year could be a lot different thanks to rising junior QB Justin Johnson Justin Johnson 5'11" | 175 lbs | QB Central Gwinnett | 2023 State GA . He’s one of the more underrated QBs in Gwinnett County and showed he has a lot of potential last year when he threw for 2,300 yards and 15 TDs. He has a chance to have a breakout season this fall, and this weekend’s tournament will show how much he’s developed over the last six months. He’ll be a QB to keep a close eye on.
