Specifically, the offensive and defensive line has had some of the most talent out of any other state in the entire Western Region and has even been home to some #1 recruits in the entire Nation in recent years. Below, we will break down some of the film of the top interior pass rushers across all classes, followed by the top edge rushers which will be released later this week.
Andrew Tillett Andrew Tillett 6'3" | 290 lbs | DL Sumner | 2022 State WA , Sumner HS
Already holding offers from Air Force and Idaho State, Tillett is a very impressive interior defender and should see plenty of success through the rest of his high school career and the next level. Out of his stance, he has a quick use of hands upon contact and does a nice job at reducing his surface area and flipping his hips in tight windows to work vertically and attack the LOS. He is a strong tackler that plays through people and consistently finishes with physicality. His tape also shows he has strong change of direction abilities and is smart against screens/draws while able to redirect in a rush and finish.
Tuaoa Tauiliili Tuaoa Tauiliili 6'3" | 260 lbs | DL Lincoln | 2022 State WA , Lincoln HS
The 2022 prospect has one offer from FCS Idaho State and should start to see more interest come his way as he enters into his Senior year. Athletic for his size, he can play the 3-4 defensive end position or kick inside if needed in a 4-5 man front and projects as an inside player at the next level. He has an explosive first step and plays smart without wasted movement and staying tight to the LOS while reading blocks well. He flashes violent hands and gets off blocks in a hurry while possessing deceptive closing speed and is a strong tackler in the box.
Hunter Hill Hunter Hill 6'3" | 275 lbs | DL Graham-Kapowsin | 2022 State WA , Graham Kapowsin HS
Hill is an absolute anchor on the defensive line for one of the states top teams. He plays with a low pad level and gets underneath blockers consistently with inside hand placement and good extension through out his shock progression. He is extremely strong at the point of attack and throws blockers around with ease. A high motor player with quick hands upon contact and snaps his hips well for his size, he will be a dominant interior pass rusher at the next level while also stout against the run.
Kolani Masunu Kolani Masunu 6'0" | 275 lbs | DL Bellevue | 2023 State WA , Bellevue HS
Masunu is only a rising Junior and had a very impressive season in the Spring of 2021. He is versatile along the defensive front and plays with good toughness and a high motor. He is a natural bender in his stance and explodes through his lower body into his shock. He has good movement ability for his size while re-setting the LOS in a hurry and playing with a solid base and good balance against drive/reach blocks. He can effectively split double teams and closes down on ball carriers in the box quickly. With two more seasons to go, he should draw FBS level interest in the coming months and continue to be one of the top defensive lineman in the 2023 class across the state.
Sam Stowers Sam Stowers 6'1" | 300 lbs | DL Steilacoom Senior | 2022 State WA , Steilacoom HS
Stowers is very explosive off the ball and has elite strength and power at the point of attack. Having a stout build and a true interior plug, he moves well for his size and displays quick feet and solid movement ability in the short area while flashing nice twitch. He plays with heavy hands and a strong initial punch while showing a low pad level and getting into the backfield in a hurry. He flashes relentless pursuit and does a good job at continuing to work/fight against double teams with a tremendous motor and effort. He will continue his dominance on both sides of the ball going into his Junior season.
