The metro-Atlanta county is home to some of the state’s top programs including recent 7A champion Marietta, the always powerful McEachern, Walton, and arguably the best team in the county, the North Cobb Warriors.
7A Region 3 specifically is one of the toughest in North Georgia, and it’s home to some of the top prospects in the state. Here are a few standout defensive back prospects to know in the region for the 2021 season…
Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'2" | 165 lbs | DB Walton | 2022 State GA – Walton
Length is always needed for cornerbacks in today’s pass-happy style of play, and that’s exactly what Allen has. He’s one of the bigger cornerback prospects in the state at 6-foot-2 170-pounds and has the ball skills to back up his impressive offer list. He’s also shown that he can bring a physical presence and is a sure tackler for a cornerback. Allen made 53 tackles last year, intercepted two passes, and broke up 7 more on his way to a very successful junior season. He was outstanding against a strong Brookwood offense last year and proved that he was one of the more physical cover corners in the state.
Emory Floyd Emory Floyd 6'2" | 170 lbs | DB Hillgrove | 2022 State GA – Hillgrove
One of the fastest prospects in the state, Floyd is a big-time safety prospect with excellent straight-line speed. The track star, who also has great length for a cornerback, has electric speed and the ability to run with just about any receiver in the country. The 6-foot-2 170-pound defensive back claims a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, a time that should impress NFL scouts one day. In July of 2020, Floyd ran a blazing 21.18 in the 200-meter dash and a 10.51 in the 100-meter dash. He can go sideline to sideline and knows how to run down backs and receivers with ease. Floyd’s speed, length, and overall potential on the football field has led to offers from Georgia, Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida, among others.
Jace Arnold Jace Arnold 5'6" | 121 lbs | DB Marietta | 2023 State GA – Marietta
He may be on the smaller side, but the 2023 cornerback out of Marietta showed last year as a sophomore that he’s one of the top cover-corners in the state. Arnold is quick, twitchy, and plays bigger than his 5-foot-10 170-pound frame. He’s an athletic defender who made plenty of plays on the ball last year. Arnold broke up 8 passes through the air and showed he has a true nose for the football with his three fumble recoveries. He’s earned plenty of major offers so far and he could see more coming his way over the next few months. Look for him to have a big junior season with the Blue Devils this fall.
Nathan Vail Nathan Vail 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB Harrison | 2022 State GA – Harrison
Looking for a hard-hitting safety? Vail is your guy. At 6-foot-2 190-pounds, Vail is a physical safety who knows how to roam the middle of the field and deliver a big hit. He’s great in run defense and does a good job of sniffing out runs on the edge. He’s also good in coverage and can turn his hips and run with receivers on the outside. His length, ball skills, and physicality have led to offers from Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Boston College, among others.
