We have ranked three athletes so far but that will change when the rankings get updated in September. In the upcoming months, PRZ Maryland will gather more information and watch more video from the various camps and 7v7’s that will be taking place.
No. 3 Dante Lovette/6-1/185/Cornerback/DeMatha
I evaluated Lovette’s highlights and evaluate him in person. He’s a tall corner with long arms and good speed. Lovett has good footwork, a smooth backpedal, good closing speed, and can make smooth transitions. I talked to him after the camp I saw him at and he had a great attitude about his performance and what his goals were. He currently has a couple of FBS offers.
No. 2 Christian Garrett Christian Garrett 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB St. Frances | 2023 State MD /Cornerback/St. Frances
We’ll be looking out for any film we can get on Garrett. St. Frances has played one game in the last 18 months due to COVID-19 related issues.
No. 1 Zahbari Sandy Zahbari Sandy 6'2" | 190 lbs | DB St. John's | 2023 State MD /6-2/195/Safety/St. John’s
Sandy’s play-recognition skills are tremendous. He plays fast and smart against both the run and the pass. He’s an athletic safety that can cover a lot of ground in coverage. I’m impressed with how quickly breaks on the ball once its in the air. Sandy shows that he’s also able to play man-to-man in pass coverage. He definitely puts his ball skills to work for him. I think Sandy has good body control in his shuffle and backpedal. He doesn’t lose sight of his receiver in zone defense. Sandy’s versatility will enable him to play both the free and strong safety position at the next level.
Colin Gill/6-0/195/Cornerback/St. John’s
The first few plays in Gill’s highlights show that he’s a cornerback that isn’t afraid to come up and lay the wood in the run game. He’s physical and does a good job of wrapping up when tackling. Solid man-coverage skills. In a few of the highlights, Gill broke up a few passes. Nice size for a cornerback. He has a smooth backpedal and loose hips, can flip with ease. He just need to be more consistent with his jam off the line of scrimmage when he’s in press coverage.
Deandre Ricks Deandre Ricks 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Dematha | 2023 State MD /6-0/184/Cornerback/DeMatha
Ricks does a good job of disrupting wide receivers at the line of scrimmage when he’s in press coverage. In the few plays that I watched, he made some nice tackles. There’s limited film on him from this past season due to COVID-19 related issues.
