In the upcoming months, we’ll be spotlighting the top players and some hidden gems across the state of Maryland. We’ll be spotlighting schools that rarely get a lot of shine for exposure as well.
Drew Kolega/5-10/190/Linebacker/2022
Kolega is a team player who lines up as both a linebacker and an offensive lineman. He’s a little undersized but isn’t afraid to come up and make tackles on defense. He does a decent job of getting off blocks from offensive linemen. He’ll need to get a little bigger and stronger if he intends to play at the next level. Kolega should also work on getting more lateral quickness. I do like the way he reacts to the football.
Keith Lynott/6-0/180/Quarterback/2022
Lynott does not have any junior year highlights up so we had to go with his sophomore year highlights. One thing that I noticed is that he makes a lot of throws while he is on the move. It’ll be interesting to see if he’s improved on his pocket presence in the past 12-plus months. In his highlights, Lynott also looks in on one receiver. To his defense, there are highlights from two seasons ago. We’ll reserve any more judgment until we see current highlights.
Vince Flook Vince Flook 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE Middletown | 2022 State MD /6-5/220/Tight End and Defensive End
Flook earned 1st Team All-League honors on defense after a solid junior year campaign. We should consider him a hidden gem as a college football prospect. There’s a lot to like about him as a tight end prospect. Flooks has nice hands and has a nice stride that enables him to cover a lot of ground when he’s running routes. He’s also a very willing and effective blocker in the run game. Flooks is a complete tight end. However, based on the highlights, the higher ceiling is on the defensive side of the football. His quickness of the ball is more noticeable when he lines up at defensive end. He’s athletic and is un-blockable at the high school level coming off the edge. We like the way he sheds blocks and speeds up to the football too. College coaches will want to take a closer look at him in the upcoming months.
Clarke Cheairs/Linebacker/2022
Cheairs is an undersized linebacker that plays like an edge defender. Based on a few of his highlights, it looks like his job is to find the ball carrier. If the opponent isn’t running the football, then Cheairs’ job is to pressure the quarterback. I’d like to see more film of him in coverage but I do realize that’s now his role on his team.
