Continue ReadingSummer definitely has not been a quiet period so far in the State of Mississippi with camps, commits and offers dominating the news nearly day in and day out. Let’s take a look at some of the most noteworthy items from the last week of football action.
- The top rated DB prospect in the state, Khamauri Rogers Khamauri Rogers 6'1" | 160 lbs | DB Holmes County | 2022 State MS , pulled the trigger on a commitment for the Miami Hurricanes last week. Rogers has long been a sought after prospect in state and is a future star at cornerback. Wiry frame with length and athletic intangibles that show up best in man coverage is seen and projects well to the Power 5 level. Rogers is a great out of state get for Manny Diaz.
- Arkansas State has made a priority out of recruiting Mississippi kids since Butch Jones took over in the offseason. That effort paid off in a big way for the Red Wolves as they secured a commitment from Union native Cameron Pascal Cameron Pascal 6'4" | 280 lbs | OL Union | 2022 State MS last week. At 6″4 and 280+ lbs, Pascal has great size and potential at numerous spots across the front line.
- Madison Central’s Isaiah Spencer Isaiah Spencer 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Madison Central | 2023 State MS was among the top 2023 standouts in camp at Ole Miss last Saturday. 40 yd dash time at sub 4.6 was impressive as well as 32″ + vertical. At over 6″0 with length and speed, Spencer has true inside WR playmaking ability. Offers are well on the way for this 2023 recruit.
- Carter Edwards Carter Edwards 6'6" | 275 lbs | OL Presbyterian Christian | 2022 State MS made a bit of a surprising move in committing last week to The University of Colorado. Edwards plays with a junkyard dog mentality and has true strength that will only improve as he matures. Potential to add weight allows him future opportunity to play tackle position. Lots of upside in the game of the 2022 graduate from Presbyterian Christian.
- There is still plenty of time on the clock for the Class of 2024, but after taking a deep look at the class the depth is already impressive. Be sure to check out of initial 2024 watch list that was published last week.
- On the note of 2024, Mendenhall needs to go ahead and get excited. The Tigers have 3 players on our initial 2024 Watch list in DL Fred Dampeer Fred Dampeer 6'4" | 225 lbs | OL Mendenhall | 2024 State MS , ATH Jay Ulmer Jay Ulmer 5'10" | 160 lbs | ATH Mendenhall | 2024 State MS and WR Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 5'8" | 150 lbs | WR Mendenhall | 2024 State MS .
- This weeks “Who to Watch For”: Ashton Hollins of George County has just burst onto the scene in the last few days securing an offer from Illinois. Elite length is seen in Hollins who takes a lot of snaps at QB currently. A thin frame with room to grow, Hollins is shifty and has open field speed and make you miss ability. With work, potential to become a downfield threat at WR is there. Fun 2022 prospect to keep an eye on moving forward.
