If one team can get a push at the line, it already gives them an advantage against the other team. There is a group of under the radar defensive lineman that are exciting to watch in the class of 2022. With such generational talent up top, it’s easy to miss some of the other defensive line talent in Michigan.
As the position evolves, so does our ability to evaluate it. For instance, a defensive lineman that played twenty years ago was supposed to fill up space and occasionally get to the quarterback. Now, defensive lineman are a big part of how the defense operates. Gap blitzes, stunts, and even dropping in coverage are all a part of how teams try to confuse the complex offensive schemes of today. College coaches look for dynamic lineman that aren’t just strong and athletic, but also have solid instincts and competitiveness.
Here is a look at under the radar defensive linemen in Michigan:
Vincent Bogovican Vincent Bogovican 6'2" | 290 lbs | DL Dakota | 2022 MIBogovican is a physical nose-guard who relies on his strength to disrupt things in the middle. He excels at both football and wrestling, which shows in his discipline and technique on the field. Expect Bogovican to take a big leap in his senior season and get on the radars of some colleges.
Joshua Boggan Joshua Boggan 6'1" | 240 lbs | DL Kalamazoo Central | 2022 MITeam district and max week

Boggan put together an impressive junior season for Kalamazoo Central, tallying 29.5 Tackles, seven tackle for loss and three sacks. Another wrestler, Boggan has a dynamic frame for a defensive end at 6’1, 240. He can play three different positions which will intrigue college coaches who are looking for players that make big impacts on their high school team.
Terique Denning Terique Denning 6'0" | 240 lbs | DL Harper Woods | 2022 State MI6 game regular season highlights.

Denning is one of the most intriguing defensive lineman in this class. He has the athletic ability to dominate the interior and give offensive lineman a long day at work. His movement is under control and balanced and there’s no unnecessary or random movement. He’s a player thats expected to shine in camps this summer and work his way up the rankings.
Zane Forist Zane Forist 6'4" | 240 lbs | DL Carson City-Crystal | 2022 MIGot to get after it this summer 🔥‼️ @CoachRodOden @BIGBOOK_WORK pic.twitter.com/L1DMaghsGa

The term ‘weight room strength’ should no be used lightly. Forist has more than just weight room strength. He’s built like a bull and it shows on the field, and at the track meets. Forist’ shot put throw of 61 feet, 5 inches was top in Michigan in 2020 and 16th among all shot putters in the country in the spring 2021 season. On the football field, Forist shows that strength along with athleticism, as he also plays quarterback at Carson City. He has the ability to engage and toss and get after the quarterback. A fun player who is expected to develop even more in his senior season.
Demarius Gibson-Wells Demarius Gibson-Wells 6'2" | 250 lbs | DL Livonia Churchill | 2022 MIYET ANOTHER STATE RECORD ALERT for Zane Forist of Carson City-Crystal – at the Greater Lansing meet he threw the discus an 11th grade record 206-0, the No. 3 throw in state history. Also won the shot with a 60-10.5.

The Livonia Churchill senior is set for a big 2021 season after having a strong 2020. He recorded 72 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles in 9 games. Along with those statistics, Gibson-Wells secured spots on the Detroit News All State Team, MLive Metro Detroit Dream Team, Detroit News All-West Team, Metro Detroit First team, All-region First team, AND All-conference. It is quite the impressive list of accomplishments for a junior. He has the athleticism to play both defensive end and tackle, but his best position is on the outside where he can utilize both his athleticism and strength.
