For whatever reason, it seems that college coaches are much more willing to reach out with a verbal offer if they know another school has already recognized a player’s talent. Often, the days after the first offer act as a metaphorical “opening of the floodgates” as players receive a rush of offers from other schools.
We’ve identified a few players at each position (Across multiple classes) that we feel are on the verge of receiving that elusive first offer. First up, the quarterbacks.
Lucas Lenhoff Lucas Lenhoff 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Myers Park | 2022 State NC , 6’2 205, 2022- Myers Park
Lenhoff transferred into the state, took over for an early enrollee as the signal caller for one of the top teams in the state. Put in a high-leverage role, Lenhoff responded with a 30-to-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio and displayed great arm strength. We’ve ranked him the fourth-best quarterback in the class, so we think he’s on the verge of receiving his first offer, likely from an FCS or Group of Five school.
Cameron Enos Cameron Enos 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Parkwood | 2023 NC , 6’ 180, 2023- Parkwood
Enos has looked to be on the cusp of his first offer for a couple of weeks now after strong performances at a number of college camps. He received a preferred invite to Wake Forest to throw with three of the top quarterbacks in the area and ran a sub-5 second 40. Enos has a strong arm and excellent legs to get out of the pocket and deliver accurate balls. He has genuine interest from schools in conferences ranging from Power Fives to the Ivy League. He has the grades to go anywhere, so it’s just a matter of getting that first offer.
Andrew Frazier Andrew Frazier 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Havelock | 2023 State NC , 5’11 185, 2023- Havelock
The only knock on Frazier’s game is his size. When I scout quarterbacks though, I don’t really put much stock into height and Frazier is a perfect example of why. He was one of the most explosive and efficient quarterbacks in the state last year, leading Havelock to a state championship appearance. He’s got elite mobility and a huge arm. Unlike many other young quarterbacks, he’s already a developed and accurate passer. A few schools have worked him out at defensive back due to his athleticism, but while I think he could also thrive there, he’s a quarterback worth watching.
Trey Shearer Trey Shearer 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB RS Central | 2023 State NC , 6’ 170, 2023- RS Central
Shearer just transferred to RS Central in Rutherford County but for Bandys last year, he displayed great arm strength and touch. He’s an accurate passer and that allows him to stand out in a camp setting. He’s been busy this summer and we don’t anticipate it being long before he receives his first college scholarship offer.
Grantt Logan Grantt Logan 6'1" | 205 lbs | QB Providence Day | 2022 State NC , 6’1 205, 2022- Providence Day
The only thing that has held Logan back is a lack of quality opportunities. Due to Covid, Providence Day played only six games all season and Logan, the backup to a very talented senior, saw very limited action. This year, it’s Logan’s team. After seeing him throw at the National Preps Combine, I have no doubt he has FBS talent. He already has great size and a fantastic deep ball. As he continues to become more experienced, he’ll be a hot commodity on the recruiting trail.
