To our guys that have reached out via Twitter, we have been watching your tape! Keep on sending it in, we always love finding some unknown gems. This week, we discovered a wide array of prospects, some of them who even have big college upside!
Calvion Clayborn | 2022 | DL
The 6’4″ 255 defensive lineman from Yazoo City High has been a sleeper so far in this recruiting cycle. He has the frame that college coaches always love and the burst off the ball to match it. Clayborn does a great job at using his hands to get off blockers and into the backfield of opposing teams. Against the run, Clayborn defeats double teams and clogs up running lanes. He uses his strength to create havoc and reroute the running back’s path. Against the pass, he uses his bull rush move to be productive and make the quarterback uncomfortable. Clayborn also plays offensive lineman.
Doug Nelson | 2023 | WR
A 6’5″ 190 wide out from Hazelhurst High, Doug Nelson has all the tools to be a dominant X or Z receiver. All you can say when you throw on this guy’s tape for the first time is “wow.” Nelson looks every bit of 6’5″ and is a physical force on the field. A long strider, Nelson has good speed off the line of scrimmage and can blow by corners. Given his obvious size, he is a nightmare for defenders on any kind of 50/50 ball. Nelson has great leaping ability and can out muscle anybody for the football. He finds and tracks the ball well downfield as well. Love how aggressive he is as a blocker as well. Probably only a matter of time before people start taking notice of this guy.
Daravion Seals | 2022 | ATH
A 6’1″ 160 athlete from J.Z. George High, Daravion Seals is a long prospect with good lower body twitch. He lines up at wide receiver and box safety and has a good nose for the football. Seals projects best as a defensive player in the long run. He is tough and physical versus the run, and he does not fear contact at all. Seals shows good fundamental tackling technique as he wraps up and rolls the ball carrier. He isn’t afraid of lowering his shoulder into anybody and racks up a ton of tackles. On offense, Seals catches well and blocks downfield efficiently. Excited to watch the jump he makes from his junior to senior season.
Tre Golden | 2022 | LB
A 5’11” 190 linebacker from Pontotoc, Golden appears to be a recent transfer addition from Mooreville High. While at Mooreville, Golden was an extremely productive box player. He lined up at outside linebacker as well as inside and produced a ton versus the run. In space, Golden runs well and gets from sideline to sideline with ease. He trusts his eyes and can diagnose plays quickly. Golden does a good job at getting off of blocks and can bring down the back in the backfield. Against the pass, Golden shows the ability to drop into coverage and disrupt routes for slot receivers and tight ends. Looking forward to watching him fit in on an already extremely talented Pontotoc defense.
Vernorrius Chaney | 2023 | ATH
A 6’3″ 185 athlete from Noxubee County, Vernorrius Chaney could be one of the best athletes on a very gifted team. Last season, he took snaps as the quarterback for Noxubee and produced at a high level. He led his team well and threw with good poise in the pocket. This spring, Chaney took the majority of his snaps at wide receiver. This guy is athletic as all get out. He runs well in space with good burst when he hits the open field and has natural hands at the receiver position. Chaney controls his body well and can get both feet down on tough sideline grabs. He blocks well in space and seems to enjoy it too. Chaney currently lists an offer from Hinds. Really excited to watch him play in a new role this year; high potential to blow up.
