No matter what position it is, college coaches can find any type of player they’re looking for in the Atlanta area. Fulton, Cobb, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties are some of the deepest and most talented areas in the country. The area is full of young talent once again, and there are many EDGE defenders who are starting to see their stock take off this summer. Now that visits and college campuses are back, some of these young defenders are going to see some major offers coming their way.
Here are a few young defensive linemen to know in the metro-Atlanta area…
Joshua Horton – Langston Hughes
Is this Atlanta native about to see his recruitment take off? It certainly looks that way. The big 6-foot-5 275-pounder has come a long way in the last 12 months and has really grown into a big-time defensive end as a sophomore. The 2023 lineman is big enough to play all over the defensive line, and as he continues to add muscle and transform his body, he could be asked to move and play on the interior down the road. Horton held early offers from Georgia Tech and Central Florida, but after camping at UGA this week, the young defender left the visit with an offer from the major in-state program. The dynamic, versatile defensive end had a monster sophomore season last year, making 96 total tackles, 5 sacks and 4 QB hurries. Look for him to add to his offer sheet more and more this summer as he takes more visits across the South.

Alexander “TA” Cunningham – Johns Creek
If you haven’t heard of Alexander Cunningham yet, now is the time to learn his name. He may only be a 2024 prospect, but the Johns Creek star is coming off a fantastic freshman season and has already made a name for himself not only in Georgia, but across the South. He has an ideal frame for a young defensive lineman at 6-foot-5 260-pounds with natural athleticism that allows him to dominate older players. He’s got long arms and already has a ton of muscle on him. He’s difficult to block for opposing linemen and he’s a force on the edge that can collapse an entire side of the line. He already holds some major D1 offers and he earned another big one this week from South Carolina.
ALL GLORY TO GOD!!!
Blessed to earn an offer from The University of South Carolina!!! #SpursUp #Gamecocks @CoachSBeamer @hopo125 @Mansell247 @RivalsFriedman @JohnsCreekHSFB pic.twitter.com/jDpPG70bml— T.A. CUNNINGHAM (@_getlikealex) June 17, 2021
Justin Ested – Kennesaw Mountain
If there’s an “under the radar” defensive end to know in Cobb County in the 2022 class, the Kennesaw Mountain defensive end could be the guy. He has great size at 6-foot-3 230-pounds, and while he does hold some smaller D1 offers, he could start seeing interest from some bigger schools coming soon. He’s quick off the edge for his size and does a nice job of running down the QB in the backfield. He’s got an athletic spring move to get off blocks and uses his big, strong hands to over-power smaller offensive tackles. He can collapse the edge against the run and is a sure tackler when around the football. He’s one of the more underrated defensive ends in the area and will be relied on heavily as a senior this fall.
