The prospects listed below are just some of the many D-III+ caliber players that can play at the collegiate level within the Bay Area. These players are coming off of big Junior years and we will review the tape and breakdown their film.
Nick Struempf, Monte Vista HS
Struempf is a very athletic guard that has a ceiling of FCS caliber next level talent. He is athletic in space and can pull effectively in tight windows while getting his hands on defenders early and finishing with power and aggression. He is physical in the box and plays with good pad level and consistent leg drive/good base while also able to climb to the second level and takes good angles to defenders scraping over the top. He is quick out of his stance and creates immediate push-back against 0-3 techs. In pass protection he relies on raw strength and patience against bull rushes while athletic enough to kick back and have a well timed punch against speed rushers/counter moves.
Laird Wheeler, San Ramon Valley HS
Wheeler is only a 2023 prospect and going into his Junior season for the Wolves. He plays inside at guard and is very effective in the run game while flashing an explosive first step and a high motor at all times. He has low pad level through contact and can effectively combo block or drive when needed with good power and toughness. As he continues to develop and grow into his frame, he will continue to be one of the top 2023 inside offensive lineman the Bay Area has to offer.
Soane Siolo, Serra HS
Siolo is a mauler in the trenches and has division I caliber abilities at the next level. For his size, he moves extremely well while able to pull to the second level and pass block in space against speedy edge rushers that can bend and flip their hips. He dominates in the run game and has a ton of lower body strength and the ability to finish blocks and get out of his stance quickly while shooting his hands with good placement and force. Due to his size and playing style, he should attract interest from service academies that look for this kind of player due to their run first scheme and play designs.
Tobyn Bunch, American Canyon HS
Bunch has good size for either guard or tackle, depending on what level he plays at in college but will most likely play inside. On his Junior film, he shows good inside hand placement upon contact and leg drive on both down blocks and kick out’s. He is versatile and can play both inside and outside while also effective in pass protection and can pick up pressures without giving up his gap and moves pretty well laterally in tight space. As he continues to learn to finish blocks and works on a more consistent pad level, he should see some D-III interest come his way through his senior Season.
