Out of the 5 losses they sustained, 3 of them were in their region. This would likely foreshadow their future play in the playoffs, as they would manage to squeeze in, just to face Warner Robins in the first round. As many could expect, especially due to the strength of Warner Robins team, the Wolverines saw their season come to an end in this game as they fell 49-7. In 2021 though, due to the great amount of talent on Union Grove’s roster, we expect the Wolverines to be competitive again, and to compete well against some of the better teams in their region, and their level of play. Below, we listed a few players who we think will help them be able to do so.
Dechavion Williams- RB
Williams has the ability to turn a small play, into a big play due to his great balance, burst, and long speed. He turns corners well, and he also runs well through the hole, with strong legs, power, and explosiveness. We love his vision, and his ability to use quick feet to be able to adjust to attempted tackles, and to slice his way through the defense. Williams also has a great twitch to his body, which helps him to be able to stick his feet in the ground, get vertical, and gain great yards. With this, the pad level he runs at is also great, and the way he allows his lower body strength to apply in his running style is also what makes him great. Next season, look for him to pick up offers and to see his recruitment jump.
Quinton Griffin- QB
What makes Griffin such a fun player to watch is his dual threat abilities. Not only is he able to use his speed, and athleticism to pick up yards on the ground and make plays, but he also has the arm talent to make decent short, and intermediate passes. Griffin also has a okay release, but we would like to see him throw with a bit more accuracy, and this could also come as he works on his footwork, and how fast he gets the ball out. The ball comes out with decent velocity as well, but if he worked on squaring his shoulders, and setting his feet, it will come out cleaner than it does at times. While he may be developmental as a passer, we know that his dynamic ability on the ground is what causes defenses to be off balance, and is also what makes him great for his offense. In 2021, expect him to continue to grow into the prospect that he should be at this point of time.
Chris Williams- CB
As a junior, Williams had a decent season last year for the Wolverines, as he did a good job of covering in both man and zone situations, and he proved to be able to hold his own when his number was called to make tackles. Williams also played with good range, and speed to be able to make plays all over the field. His body control, and ability to tort his body in awkward situations makes him strong in coverage and helps him to be able to make good pass break ups, and to be alert at all times. We also like the way he is able to bend well, and get out of his breaks cleanly, and is able to use his ball skills to his advantage. Next season, if he can work on the way he turns and runs at times, and the way he flips his hips, he can continue to improve as a DB.
Connor Williams- OLB
Williams may be a bit of a smaller backer, but his speed helps make up for this fact. Not only does he see the play well as it is unfolding, but he does a good job of getting off of the ball and making his way to the ball carrier. He makes tackles in pursuit, as well as behind the line of scrimmage, and he also does a solid job of pressuring the passer in blitz situations. Williams also wraps up well on ball carriers, but we would like to see him drive his hips more, and use his hands better to wrestle players to the ground. When stopping the run, he has no problem coming downhill either, which is great to see out of a player of his size. Next season, to improve in multiple aspects of his game, we would like to see him improve in his lateral movement skills, as well as his footwork and fluidity of movement.
