These young stars are, or will soon be, the generals on the field and will be asked to lead their teams to success, and they show that they have the tools needed to get the job done. The quarterbacks below showed tremendous talent and will draw the eyes of many. This is only the beginning of a deep list of players in the area and we will continue to find those who ball out!
Chase Jenkins Chase Jenkins 5'11" | 170 lbs | QB Alief Taylor | 2023 State TX – Episcopal
Jenkins is special in and out of the pocket. After reviewing his film, Jenkins shows many quality traits that contribute to his success. He is accurate on his throws, showing pinpoint precision. Jenkins has a great awareness in the pocket, being able to feel what is around him. He is an improviser and maneuverers very well in tight spaces. Jenkins shows great athleticism when he needs to, being able to out run a defense on a broken play but also has the arm strength to send a ball deep. Jenkins will be looked upon to lead again but he is built for it! Keep eyes out for him.
Koby Truehill Koby Truehill 6'4" | 185 lbs | QB Paetow | 2023 TX – Paetow
Truehill is the player to watch for the future. The young lefty has incredible arm strength and is extremely dangerous on the play action. He has a great frame, standing 6’4 and has great touch on his throws. Truehill shows deep ball accuracy and the ability to throw on the run. He is a very talented player whose time is coming and when it does you will remember the name. Truehill is next up!
Gavin Rutherford – Cinco Ranch
Rutherford had a very good sophomore campaign, throwing for almost 1,400 yards with 11 touchdowns. He showed much confidence in the pocket and put his arm strength on display. Rutherford was launching passes and with great accuracy. He showed very good pocket awareness and footwork, and the ability to keep his eyes downfield even when under pressure. Rutherford also showed good athleticism and escape ability form the pocket, His player earned him Newcomer of the Year in his district. Rutherford is a player whose name, if not already, should be on many lists. He is a promising player who will get his recognition very soon.
Preston Hatter Preston Hatter 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB Westfield | 2023 State TX – Klein Oak
Hatter was electric every time he touched the field. The lefty quarterback saw limited time in varsity games, but took advantage of the moment to the fullest. Hatter showed that he is a true playmaker. He was a dynamic runner making the correct reads consistently. Hatter showed a strong arm and the ability to make big plays happen with his feet. Hatter displayed the ability to break tackles and his elusiveness in order to get to the endzone. He is another special talent who will draw many eyes heading into next season. Fantastic athlete with great potential at the quarterback position.
Justin Castillo – Klein Collins
Castillo showed much toughness in his film. When he became a runner, he welcomed contact and delivered the blows. Castillo was dangerous on the RPOs and delivered strikes out of the pocket. He was accurate on the throws and made the right reads. Castillo was very careful on his throws and protected the ball well, and tuck and ran when nothing was open. He showed very good athleticism and will be called upon to be even better for the upcoming season. I believe he will turn heads and draw much attention.
Kenneth Rosenthal – Lamar
Rosenthal shows very good accuracy and has good zip on his throws. He is an agile quarterback who can stand tall in the pocket or roll out and make the throw. Rosenthal looks good throwing on the run and delivers the ball where it needs to be. He can also get it done with his feet as well and make a big play happen. He is another young talent who showed flashes and has great potential. Rosenthal got better with the more time he spent on the field. The future is bright for him and he will only continue to develop into a top notch quarterback for his team.
Joshua Johnson – Morton Ranch
Johnson showed a quick release on his throws and the ability to squeeze the ball into tight areas. He stepped into his throws and delivered great strikes to his targets. Johnson looked very good on his reads and made the right decision on most of them. He showed off very good arm strength as well as escape abilities from the pocket. Johnson has had an active offseason at camps and has not disappointed. He will be one to watch closely this upcoming season.
