Head coach Andy Jackson should be commended for the work he has done thus far, leading the Dragons to a (5-1) overall record during the spring, with their only loss coming to #1 Thurston.
After beating up 6A South Salem in their opener, Dallas went (4-0) in league, averaging a 34-point victory over the course of the conference season (47-13).
Heading into the Fall the Dragons return three of the top athletes in 5A, with each being ranked in the Prep Red Zone Top 100 for the class of 2022. OT/DL Justin Parnell Justin Parnell 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL Dallas | 2022 State OR (6-4 285 22’) projects as one of the top linemen in the state regardless of classification. I currently have him listed at #18 behind Oregon State commit Jacob Strand Jacob Strand 6'5" | 270 lbs | OL Canby | 2022 State OR (6-5 270 T 22’) of Canby and Boise St commit Kage Casey Kage Casey 6'6" | 265 lbs | OL Clackamas | 2022 State OR (6-6 270 T 22’) of Clackamas.
Parnell projects on offense but impresses with his overall agility and ability on D. Speaking on the talented two-way player coach says, “Justin is an absolute monster in our conference on both sides of the line of scrimmage. He is one of the best throwers in the state in track and did not give up a sack over the course of our 6-game season.”
No team wins a title without a legit line and Parnell is the exact guy you want leading that group. With continued progression he projects at the D1 level. Playing in a smaller town he is fortunate to have a coach who is getting out and advocating for him.
Add in two of the best overall athletes in Oregon, with Logan Person Logan Person 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Dallas | 2022 State OR and Ashton Foster Ashton Foster 6'1" | 190 lbs | QB Dallas | 2022 State OR , and Dallas should be one of the state’s top ranked 5A teams.
Foster was incredibly impressive at the quarterback spot, hitting on 75% of his passes and totaling 13 TDs (10 passing). He also made the finals of the prestigious Northwest 9 competition in Seattle, finishing right behind the state’s #1 QB Brian Mannion Brian Mannion 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Mountainside | 2022 State OR out of Mountainside.
Referencing Ashton coach said, “He is an extremely high-level athlete, who is efficient, and can make big plays running the ball as well. He has thrown only 2 INTs in the last two years and was the leader of our offense which averaged 37 points per game.”
Person is the guy who can change a game at any time. Most 5A athletes in Oregon get overlooked if we are talking collegiate projection, but he has a real shot. Speaking on that coach says, “Logan is legit and can do it all. He is our best athlete and plays in many spots, he is our top running back, lines up at receiver in certain formations, and is our wildcat QB… He is also a big hitter at Safety with great ball skills, and our kicker/punter, who did not miss a FG or PAT all season.”
In summary Person is the real deal. On the year he accounted for 973 yards, averaging 162 yards per game. His 41 tackles, 5 pass breakups, and 3 forced fumbles on D were impressive as well. I have Logan ranked my #52 overall athlete and #7 DB in Oregon on the Top 100. Look for D2’s to be all over him, and potentially some D1aa’s. He is that good.
Dallas has a great football community and should pack the house every Friday night. Look for the Dragons to potentially be listed among the top 5 teams at the 5A level to start the season. It will be fun year of football out in the Valley.
