The best players in this region are outstanding on the gridiron and will likely be exciting to watch in a few weeks when the 2021 high school football season gets underway in Alabama.
J’shon Bentford | 6-0 RB | Brindlee Mountain
Bentford has electric speed and significant strength in his running game. He can move past defenders and gain yards after contact. If he gets down the sideline, he can be gone in seconds to the endzone. His 2020 season was outstanding, and he should put up solid numbers again in 2021.
Colby Turner | WR | Collinsville
Turner is a speedy receiver with great hands. He can force missed tackles after the catch and can haul in any pass thrown his way. He is also a great blocker in the running game. Turner has the chance to put up great production numbers this season.
Caleb Hall | 6-0 RB | Geraldine
Hall is a shifty running back that can bounce off tackles and turn it into positive yards. He runs with a lot of power and has quick speed down the sideline. Hall is a terrific north-south tailback that can score in excess of 10+ touchdowns this season.
Brody Smith | 6-2 QB | Sylvania
Smith is a standout quarterback with all the right attributes. He has a strong arm and can sling it deep, but excels in the short pass and medium route schemes. When under pressure, he can find an open receiver or scramble out of the pocket with his legs to avoid a sack. Smith makes all the right reads and can expose the defense in certain packages.
Preston Bates | 5-10 MLB | Sylvania
Bates is a terrific middle of the defense player that plays at a high level. He is active on every play and can make tackles all over the field. If he gets into the backfield, he can apply pressure on the quarterback or make quick tackles. In coverage, he has the ability to knock down passes or haul in an interception while staying stride for stride with his receiver.
Brant Kittle | 6-2 TE, DE | Sylvania
Kittle has a big frame and is a prototypical player at the tight end spot. While his numbers aren’t outshining his other receivers, Kittle makes his impact and has great hands. He excels at blocking for the run game but can be explosive when he catches a pass. On the defensive line, he can get into the backfield and force pressure or get off blocks to get tackles at the line of scrimmage.
Sawyer Hughes | 6-2 CB | Sylvania
Hughes is an impressive cornerback that could end up at the next level. He plays with a ton of poise and rarely gets beat in coverage, especially in deep routes. He can read the quarterback through the entire route and sta step for step with his receiver. Hughes can jump the route and pick the ball off and get a big return for his team on any play.
