For head coach Jared Allen and Alachua Santa Fe High School, that turning point came during a stretch in 2020 – after fighting the pandemic – when the Raiders took a step back during the 3-6 season.
The stretch of teams that included Gainesville Eastside (20-3), Gainesville Buchholz (52-0) and Gadsden County (38-0) saw the wheels come off, and while the team realized work had to be put in to get this program on track, they also understood that things had to start right away.
In the spring game, while it’s understood that it was only an exhibition, the Raiders beat Eastside (22-21), had a solid summer and embraces what lies ahead in this season ahead.
If this program is going to play on a successful off-season, it will have to be done with a senior class that includes Landon Rogers (QB, 6-3, 209 – 3.65 GPA), a coach’s son, who is a leader on and off the playing field. Worked on his throwing motion in the off-season.
Also, Kamarious Gates (DE, 6-4, 264), a Williston transfer with plenty of talent, and tremendous student/athlete Turner Hilton (OL/LB, 6-3, 230 – 4.0 GPA),
The Raiders also have other Class of 2022 standouts Willie Hill (RB/LB, 6-3, 210), who is perhaps the spark of this team – with many following his lead. Important year for him to make it all happen. Devan Mitchum (WR, 5-8, 145 – 3.16 GPA – tremendous hands), Amman Tillman (TE/WR, 6-2, 195), Promising Iyen Butler (OL, 5-11, 260 – 3.76 GPA), Jahiem Foye (DT, 5-11, 280 – 2.6 GPA), Borie Hudson (CB, 5-9, 175), Broderick Walker (DE, 6-2, 225) and talented and physical Billy White (FS, 6-2, 190 – 3.4 GPA).
UNDERCLASSMEN ARE SET TO CONTRIBUTE
There is no getting around the fact that this program needs all the bodies on the team to continue making a contribution – and with Class of 2023 prospects Ty’rique Robinson (LB/RB, 5-11, 180 – 3.4 GPA), Javarus Evans (RB/LB, 5-8, 197 – 2.87 GPA) and versatile Blake McCormick (OLB/S/QB, 6-0, 180 – 3.46 GPA), they have three who can make an impact now.
Also, Class of 2024 standouts such as starting linebacker Demarius Lewis (6-0, 190) and hard-working defensive end Calel Perry (6-2, 240) are players who will contribute right away.
