It seems like the talent in southern AZ is growing every year, especially at 5A Salpointe Catholic and 3A Yuma Catholic. Here’s a look at the top five players from southern AZ:
Treyson Bourguet Treyson Bourguet 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Salpointe Catholic | 2022 State AZ , QB, 6’2″ 185lbs, Salpointe Catholic ’22
Bourguet is a highly touted QB for Salpointe and holds offers from BYU, Columbia, and Idaho after decommitting from Arizona in December of 2020. He possesses excellent pocket mechanics and movement to slide, step up, or scramble out of pressure to extend plays. He delivers with a quick and smooth release with the ability to hit all 3 levels of throws with good timing and placement. He can deliver impressive off-platform throws and adjust his arm angle well on specific throws under pressure, giving him numerous intangibles to build off of at the next level. A definite FBS level talent that is projecting to explode in 2021.
Elijah Barclay Elijah Barclay 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Salpointe Catholic | 2022 CA , WR, 6’2″ 175lbs, Salpointe Catholic ’22
Barclay is one of the best receivers in the state paired with one of the best QB’s in the state, making them possibly the most lethal QB-WR duo in Arizona. He transferred to Salpointe Catholic from powerhouse Mater Dei High in California in the summer of 2020. He holds a total of 6 offers thus far and should see more pour in as long as he can continue on the same trajectory. He’s a fluid route runner with a nice initial burst off the LOS and possesses solid top end speed to stretch the field vertically. He shows the ability to win contested catches and holds good body control all around to adjust and haul in difficult catches.
Richard Stallworth Richard Stallworth 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Yuma Catholic | 2023 State AZ , QB, 6’2″ 210lbs, Yuma Catholic ’23
Stallworth comes from 3A Yuma Catholic and is arguably the best 2023 QB in the state given his production as a sophomore. In 10 games, he threw for 3,778 yards and 49 TD’s, while adding another 5 TD’s on the ground. He is a pure pocket passer with excellent mechanics and goes through progression well while showing solid anticipation for routes to develop. He’s a natural arm talent that delivers with an effortless release and has shown the ability to hit all 3 levels of throws with timing and placement. He does a great job distinguishing whether to use velocity or touch, and holds a high football IQ. Definite division 1 talent that is deserving of his first offer.
Jack Endean Jack Endean 6'6" | 280 lbs | OL Tanque Verde | 2023 State AZ , OL, 6’5″ 270lbs, Tanque Verde
Endean is another small school standout who is an absolute monster in the trenches. Endean picked up his first offer from Arizona in April, then recently landed another PAC 12 offer from California. Endean sizes up with a solid frame with room to add weight. He has recently impressed throughout the summer at various camps. He displays a good center of gravity and holds ground well in a pass set with a nice punch and hand placement. Good coordination, balance, and mobility to reach quick edge rushers and is a highly touted offensive lineman for 2A Tanque Verde.
Austin Rush Austin Rush 5'10" | 185 lbs | WR Yuma Catholic | 2022 State AZ , WR, 5’10″ 185lbs, Yuma Catholic
Rush comes off a highly productive junior season as he joined the 1,000 yard club in receiving along with 16 total TD’s. He is a creative route runner and does a great job manipulating manned up DB’s. He is explosive at the top of routes out of his stick which helps him generate large separation as well. He possesses solid yet deceptive speed to take the top off a defense, and can also get shifty in space. The Stallworth-Rush duo is another lethal QB-WR tandem and will be fun to watch in the fall.
