Julian Sampson: Naperville North HS- 5’11 175 lb
Julian is a corner who entered the summer as a player who was a bit of an unknown. Since then, he has been gaining attention at the multiple camps he has attended this summer. Julian has shown that he’s light on his toes and has a smooth transition between man and zone turns. During one on ones, he’s a patient corner who keeps his eyes disciplined on the receiver’s hips. As high school camps start to roll around, Julian is one to keep an eye on as he continues to grow.
Donta Hayes: Morgan Park HS- 6’2″ 185 lb
Donta Hayes is a receiver turned defensive back. His first varsity snaps at the position came in the spring of 2021. Watching him at multiple camps this June, you can’t tell that he made the transition just a couple of months ago! Built at 6’2” 185 lb, Donta is a strong corner who has been bullying wideouts off the line of scrimmage, along with at the top of routes. Having this physicality along with his ball skills that he brought over from the other side of the ball, have stood out this June, and even helped him receive his first offer. Look for Donta to continue to progress as he gets more reps at the corner position.
Michael Torres Michael Torres 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Evergreen Park | 2022 State IL : Evergreen Park HS- 5’10″ 180 lb
I started keeping an eye on Michael Torres Michael Torres 5'10" | 175 lbs | DB Evergreen Park | 2022 State IL sometime before the pandemic when I coached at the collegiate level. He was a DB who never had a problem being physical or taking chances. With what’s been done this summer, he has begun to truly stand out. He has brought his physical/no-quit attitude to the summer camp scene. Michael has done well jamming receivers off of the line and re-routing receivers. He’s the corner that coaches want to play for them, and this June coaches are starting to take notice.
Mike Smith Jr Mike Smith Jr 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Guilford | 2022 State IL Jr.: Guilford HS- 6’0” 165
Mike is a corner listed at 6’0” tall but plays like he’s 6’4”. He has long arms that have been giving receivers and tight ends issues at camps this summer during 1 on 1’s. Mike started turning heads at the University of South Dakota Elite football camp with how keen he is going against receivers. His back-pedal technique Is short and choppy, but then he attacks the ball like a receiver. Noise is starting to brew with how he has performed in the month of June.
Lamarr Box: East St. Louis HS- 6’1″ 170 lb
Lamarr is a kid who has been making play after play in the month of June. He’s done so playing off man but excels in bump and run coverage. He has been attending SEC camps and has been holding his own against the top talent in the nation. Through fast feet, and patience in allowing receivers to make their release off of the line, his understanding of football continues to improve. Lamarr is starting to get more and more college looks, while also solidifying himself as a top corner in Illinois.
Brayden Hall Brayden Hall 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB St Rita | 2022 State IL : St. Rita HS- 5’10″ 170 lb
This is one of the corners that I am becoming more and more interested to see where his limit is. Brayden is a corner that somehow only sits on about 2 offers right now. With his performance this June, it is sure to increase. Brayden is a corner that has a nose for the football and great close-out speed. Receivers who run deep routes on him pay the price if they don’t attack the ball. His ability to flip his hips and run with anyone is something that not all corners can say they do. After a successful June, Brayden will continue to gain more buzz as we transition into the fall.
