Overview (Class 2A Preseason Ranking: #5)
Coming into the 2020 season, we’ll be the first to admit that we didn’t have very high expectations for the Community Christian Royals. They were coming off a 5-6 record in 2019 and got shut out by Kingston in the first round of the playoffs. And as we say all the time with Class 2A, it’s arguably the deepest and most competitive class in the state. So looking at a team coming off a 5-6 record and projecting them to be a close call away from the 2A quarterfinals wasn’t something in the cards for us at this time last year. Fast forward to today and they come in as the #5 team in our 2A preseason rankings. They still have some things to prove after last year. They put up a good record but were blown out by Washington in the regular season. We’ll have more on that match-up in our “Games To Watch” feature below. Like we mentioned they were a close game with OCS away from making it to the quarterfinals in the state’s deepest class. Now, as they flip the page and look at the 2021 season, expectations are incredibly high. They return seven starters on the offensive side of the ball and also bring back six starters on defense. And for a program like Community Christian, contending for titles doesn’t happen overnight. You need those stepping stone moments and walking before you run. They made back to back playoff trips in 2018 and 2019. They hosted and won a playoff game last year. Now it’s time to take the next step and contend for the district championship and make a run into December. The Royals return some really talented players and will have a team that can contend for the state title. For CCS, it’s time to take that next step in 2021.

. The 2023 standout that has only played six games of football in his life and yet because of his athleticism and size, he’s already being recruited and offered by power five programs all over the country. Jobe will be the gamechanger for the Royals this fall as he lines up on offense and defense. On offense, he’ll give the Royals size at the tight end position or even out at wide receiver. On defense is where he’ll shine as an absolute wrecking ball of a defensive end.
Boyce McIntosh – 2022 Quarterback
A lot of hype and attention will be around

and rightfully so because he is one of the best athletes in the state. However, when people check out Community Christian this fall, they’re going to notice much more than the CCS big man. Leading the way on offense will be 2022 quarterback Boyce McIntosh. The senior quarterback had some really big games last year and is back and has yet another year of experience under his belt. We believe that McIntosh could be one of the more underrated players coming into the season this fall and that will provide him with an opportunity to have a breakout year.
Kallen Montgomery – 2022 Running Back/Linebacker
A lot of what we wrote about quarterback Boyce McIntosh can be written right here with 2022 running back and linebacker Kallen Montgomery. We think that Community Christian’s passing game could be one of the best in 2A football this fall with McIntosh and the wealth of receivers that he has around him. But what could make this Royal offense incredibly impressive is Montgomery lining up with McIntosh in the backfield at running back. He’s going to give CCS a steady presence in the running game and a very physical style that will give the Royals balance. Just like with McIntosh, we expect Montgomery to have some pretty big games this fall when defenses focus on slowing down the passing game.

Notable
Community Christian first participated in OSSAA football in 2014. The Royals have been playing football before but they officially joined the OSSAA less than a decade ago. Since then, they’ve eased into the regular schedule and gotten used to the new competition. It wasn’t easy for the Royals as they went 2-8 in 2016 and then had a winless season in 2017. However, in 2018, they made their first ever playoff appearance in school history, just one year after going 0-10. The next year they made it back to the postseason. The Royals were 0-2 in both playoff appearances, losing to Kingston both times. Last year, the Royals earned a home playoff game and took the next step to becoming a contender in the state with a dominating win over a Davis team that was one of the best football programs in the state when Community Christian first joined the OSSAA in 2014. CCS would then lose a close one to Oklahoma Christian School the following week. But the groundwork was set for the Royals to not only make a run in 2021, but to be one of the best in 2A football.
2021 Schedule/Games To Watch
Aug. 27 – AT Crossings Christian
Sept. 3 – AT Bridge Creek
Sept. 10 – OKC Patriots
Sept. 24 – AT Holdenville
Oct. 1 – Crooked Oak
Oct. 8 – AT Washington
– Community Christian has a really good shot at being undefeated coming into this week six battle with Washington. The Warriors beat the Royals down in 2020 and gave them their biggest loss of the season. Washington would go on to capture the district championship and would make a run all the way to the state championship game, losing to Metro Christian and settling for silver. Community Christian is wanting to be where Washington was last year and then some. The first step is a big one as they’ll go on the road to face the Warriors in a game that will more than likely decide the district championship. If the rankings hold as they are now, this will be a game between two top five teams.
Oct. 14 – Christian Heritage
– Sometimes the schedule just sets up this way and there’s nothing you can do about it. Arguably the two toughest games of the season for Community Christian end up not only being in back to back weeks but also on short rest. After traveling to Washington to face the Warriors in a massive showdown, Community Christian will play host to Christian Heritage the following week on a Fall Break-shortened week where the majority of the games are played on Thursday. The Crusaders have a strong team returning and will be able to give the Royals a run for their money. Especially if they are still thinking about the game with Washington from the week before, win or lose.
