These players from Northwest Ohio have worked hard at camps and combines this spring and summer to get on the radar of various collegiate programs around the Midwest. Here are a few of the players that deserve recognition.
Sam Smith Jr Sam Smith Jr 6'4" | 205 lbs | WR Wauseon | 2023 State OH 6’4” 190 WR Wauseon
Smith has great length and deceptive speed for a wide receiver. He possesses excellent ball skills including soft hands and the ability to turn back across his body to make acrobatic receptions. As good as he is at making big catches downfield, he is also just as impressive running the tunnel screen. Smith could develop into a big-time receiver by his senior year.
A J Schuller 6’2” 215 DE Toledo St. John’s
Schuller has quickness off the ball as a defensive rush end. His long arms keep blockers off his frame and allow him to disengage quickly. He also makes it difficult for opposing quarterbacks to throw over him. If he doesn’t get to the quarterback before the pass is thrown, he immediately turns and bursts to the football.
Adam Hrynciw Adam Hrynciw 6'3" | 175 lbs | WR Fremont Ross | 2023 OH 6’2” 170 WR Fremont Ross
Adam can line up either inside or outside at the receiver position. He is a consistent target on crossing routes for his quarterback, being able to be utilized as a hot receiver versus the blitz. Hrynciw is also sure handed catching bubble and quick screens. Adam also doubles as a corner on defense.
Danny Nusbaum Danny Nusbaum 5'9" | 195 lbs | LB Sylvania Southview | 2023 OH 5’9” 190 LB Sylvania Southview
If you want a linebacker who gives a hundred percent when the blitz is called, Nusbaum’s your man. He takes exceptional angles to the football whether at the middle or outside linebacker positions. Nusbaum gives great effort getting to the football as well on pass plays by changing direction and exploding to the football.
Jack Borer Jack Borer 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Perrysburg | 2023 OH 6’3” 180 WR Perrysburg
What he lacks in pure speed, Borer makes up with his soft and sure hands. This talented possession receiver is the go-to guy in order to keep the chains moving. Borer can go up in a crowd to haul in the pass over shorter defensive backs and he is a reliable red zone receiver running the slant and fade routes.
Jaiden Butler Jaiden Butler 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Toledo St. John's | 2023 State OH 6’0” 165 DB Toledo St. John’s
Butler lines up at either corner or safety for St. John’s. He is extremely quick and is an excellent openfield tackler despite his size. Butler is a fundamentally sound corner in press coverage who makes the receiver work to get a release off the line of scrimmage. He also can flip his hips and run with the receiver stride for stride in man coverage.
