Year in and year out Region 2-6A has been known as a murder’s row in the north half of the state when division play rolls around. With 2021 being a reclassification year, things are only getting more difficult within the division.
Oxford and Tupelo make the move to Region 2-6A after both having success in Region 1-6A in years past, with the Chargers of Oxford coming up just short of a state title last season. Grenada is also jumping up classifications moving up from the 5A ranks. Making room for the three new schools saw South Panola move up to Region 1-6A and Warren Central transition to the south half of the state in Region 3-6A, while Greenville moved down to 5A.
It is no secret that Starkville struggled in 2020 and Covid-19 did not help the situation, but even after losing tons of talent to graduation, Chris Jones will look to have the YellowJackets squarely back in the thick of things.
With the addition of three new faces to the party a case could easily be made for about 6 teams as the division frontrunner going into the fall.
