In 2020, the Bearcats finished with a 10-3 record on the season and racked up another 4-3A Conference Championship. The potential is there for Booneville to make another deep playoff run this season. We will look at some of the key players that the Bearcats are going to rely on as well as give a prediction on the season.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bearcats have relied on the flexbone offense for years and the 2021 season will not be any different. Booneville has experience returning at the quarterback position in the form of Randon Ray Randon Ray 5'8" | 150 lbs | RB Booneville | 2022 State AR . Ray does an excellent job of running the Bearcats’ offense. Throughout the course of his career, Ray has rushed for over 1,000 yards and punched the ball in the end zone 16 times.
However, Ray is not the only that carries the football for the Bearcats. Sophomore Dax Goff Dax Goff 6'1" | 215 lbs | LB Booneville | 2024 State AR who has the potential to be a division one player is going to see his share of the carries. Goff was a force on both sides of the ball for the Bonneville junior high school. Goff has the potential to play on both sides of the ball for the Bearcats. The rushing attack for Booneville is going to be a strong facet of what the Bearcats are wanting to accomplish.
The Bearcats will have eight starters returning on the defensive side of the ball. Bret Welling has done an excellent job on the defensive line over the past few years. Welling racked up 46 tackles last season and has the opportunity to improve upon those numbers this season. Meanwhile, fans should keep an eye on Mason Goers Mason Goers 6'2" | 175 lbs | LB Booneville | 2023 State AR as well. Goers plays the linebacker position for the Bearcats and a season ago he racked up 43 tackles. Keeping an eye out for Goff on the defensive side of the ball would be a wise idea as well.
2021 Prediction:
Booneville is going for a fifth-straight conference championship this season. The Bearcats have enough talented pieces returning and plenty of young talent coming up through the ranks to accomplish that feat. Booneville will open on the road against the Sand Lizards of Dardanelle before returning home in week two to take on Ozark. A deep playoff run is a possibility for the Bearcats with a chance of playing War Memorial Stadium to close out the season. Booneville is always a well-coached team so the goals and business will clear by the time the season starts.
