These are young athletes who got their first season of high school football under their belts and will be names to keep an eye on as they continue to develop and hone their craft. With that being said, let’s take a first look at the 24’ TEs.
Grant Stec Grant Stec 6'6" | 245 lbs | TE Jacobs | 2024 State IL Jacobs Twitter
Mr. Stec is from Jacobs, he played on Varsity as a Freshman this past spring where he got it done in the air as well as the ground attack. What stands out to me the most about this young man is his selflessness to block downfield for his teammates. On one play he bursts off the line of scrimmage and pancakes the defender in his tracks and on another he sprints to the opposite side of the field to make a block 20-yards downfield for his running back to get into the endzone. Mr. Stec is also lines outside the numbers where he makes contested catches by high pointing the ball which is where his 6’6 225 frame comes to light. This young man could very well be a high target for college coaches for the 24′ class at the TE position once the fall season is over.
Luke Johnsen Luke Johnsen 6'3" | 260 lbs | TE Geneseo | 2024 IL Geneso Twitter
Mr. Johnsen is from Geneseo, he played on JV as a Freshman this past spring where he showcased what he can do. He has a good frame standing at 6’3 240 and this helps him in run blocking as well as making the catch in traffic to shield the defender off which is what I like most about this young man. He’s not going to kill you with his speed but his ability to use his frame to shield defenders off is something that caught my attention. Mr. Johnsen is ready to make a name for himself once the pads get put on this fall and I look forward to seeing how he produces.
Mason Maleck Mason Maleck 6'2" | 225 lbs | TE Carl Sandburg | 2024 IL St Rita Twitter
Mr. Maleck is from St Rita, he played on JV as a Freshman this past spring where he showcased what he can do. What I like most about this young man is his ability to make the catch with the defender draped all over him and block downfield at the JV level. He stands at 6’1 195 with room to hone his craft by developing further. As he awaits his first snaps on Varsity, keep an eye on how he produces this fall season as he’s a name to keep an eye on.
These are the young men that are getting their first look at the rankings. They put in the hard work, developed their craft, and showcased what they can do during the spring season as well as at showcases/camps. This list is bound to expand as we journey on the 24’s high school careers and will continue to grow as we finish each season.
