Continue ReadingThe state of New Jersey consistently puts out an abundance of division one talent year after year. With programs like Don Bosco, Bergen Catholic, Paramus Catholic & many more, the state is easily in the conversation to be considered a type five football state across the country. We decided to dive in and look at the state’s 2024 class, in particular the defensive backs. Each prospect on this list has yet to receive their first offer but should make their way onto college radars with a big sophomore campaign.
OJ Vaughan, 5’9″, 185, Don Bosco
An explosive two-way player who can make you miss in a phone booth. Vaughn is a definitive playmaker who makes being around the football seem like second nature. He’s comfortable rolling up in the slot to play man and can do so in either press or off coverage. His breaks are compact & stay within the framework of his body. He shows no issues running the alley and will come to balance & make tackles in space.
Rocky Rodriguez, 5’9″, 170, Bayonne
A physical defensive back prospect that will come up and set the edge. Despite his size, Rocky is a force between the tackles and can create serious disruption in the backfield. He closes ground quickly and won’t let a ball carrier squirm away once he has them in his grasp. Based on his natural athleticism, instincts, and brute style of play, I think he’d make a very good nickel at the next level.
Jeremiah Pruitt, 6’1″, 190, Donovan Catholic
Pruitt already shows FBS level size, despite only entering his sophomore season. His ball skills and ability to read quarterbacks is pretty special. He’s an outstanding tackler who looks to punish ball carriers by exploding through them on contact. He’s strong at the point of attack and can elude potential blockers. The ability to create chunk plays as a kick returner was evident even at a young age.
James Hill Jr. James Hill Jr. 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Woodstown | 2024 State NJ , 5’11″, 175, Woodstown
An exceptional tackler equipped with plenty of acceleration behind him. Hill is calm in zone coverage and will sell out to make a play on opposing quarterbacks through the air. On the offensive side, Hill is a tough runner with the ball in his hands and will keep his feet moving once initial contact has been made. He’s dynamite in the redzone and has a knack for finding paydirt. He’s not looking to run around you and eyes lowering his shoulder in any instance.
