This is the deepest and most talented position group of all for the 2022 class with several guys remaining available and sporting the abilities to put themselves into the Power Five, Division 1 ranks.
(Prospects are listed in order by their ranking)

– Jones is the kind of talent that has elite written all over him and he is far from a finished product. After playing both ways for the Red Devils this coming season, Jones will be taking his talents to Ann Arbor to play defensive back in the Wolverines secondary.
* Committed to Michigan *
‘22 (S) Anthony Brown Anthony Brown 6'2" | 195 lbs | DB Milan | 2022 State TN (6’2 195) – Milan (DB Rank: 2 State Rank: 11)
– A gamer that plays strong in big moments, Brown is another two-way talent for his high school team but will be headed to the Power Five level as a safety. He has yet to make his college decision but things are leaning towards Brown choosing to play in the SEC with Arkansas.
‘22 (CB/S) Jaylen Lewis Jaylen Lewis 6'1" | 175 lbs | DB Haywood | 2022 State TN (6’2 175) – Haywood (DB Rank: 3 State Rank: 15)
– The Tomcats defense at Haywood will be loaded this season, especially with a ball hawk like Lewis playing in the secondary. A recent commitment to Arkansas, Lewis will be looking to hone his craft this coming Fall prior to taking his talents to the Southeastern Conference.
* Committed to Arkansas *
‘22 (CB) James Reed III James Reed III 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Father Ryan | 2022 State TN (6’0 180) – Father Ryan (DB Rank: 4 State Rank: 24)
– This Nashville area cover corner is poised for a big senior season, especially missing out on his junior year due to injury. Reed is a talented young man who could be the top pure cover corner for the in-state 2022 class. He recently committed to Arkansas St. and appears solid with the Red Wolves.
* Committed to Arkansas St. *
‘22 (CB/S) Myles Pollard Myles Pollard 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Ravenwood | 2022 State TN (6’2 185) – Ravenwood (DB Rank: 5 State Rank: 25)
– This Raptors big and versatile defensive back really took a strong progression with his game during his junior season which in turn has now led him to be a commitment of Michigan. Pollard shows traits to play cornerback but translates best in college at safety.
* Committed to Michigan *
‘22 (S) D.J. Burks D.J. Burks 6'0" | 190 lbs | DB Maryville | 2022 State TN (6’0 190) – Maryville (DB Rank: 6 State Rank: 27)
– The Mountaineers of App State landed a steal here with Burks as he has the talent to step onto campus next Fall and immediately compete for playing time. The Rebels star defensive back is smart, physical and has a nose for the football. Burks is as steady as you will find in the 2022 class.
* Committed to Appalachian St. *
‘22 (CB/S) Tyler Woodard Tyler Woodard 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Freedom Prep | 2022 State TN (6’2 180) – Freedom Prep (DB Rank: 7 State Rank: 28)
– Woodard is excited to play his senior year after his team had to miss out on the 2020 season and show why he is a current commit of Miss. State. Tall and long with a big radius, Woodard is a potential filled prospect that could play corner or safety on the collegiate level.
* Committed to Mississippi St. *
‘22 (S) Reco Trimble Reco Trimble 6'1" | 180 lbs | DB Red Bank | 2022 State TN (6’1 180) – Red Bank (DB Rank: 8 State Rank: 32)
– This is a talented football player that remains available and whoever lands Trimble will be getting a steal! The Lions star two-way talent was having a strong junior year before an injury derailed his season. If that had not happened, Trimble would either be committed or sport more than 20 Power Five offers. Watch out for this guy over the coming months.
‘22 (S) Taylor Groves Taylor Groves 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB East Robertson | 2022 State TN (6’2 185) – East Robertson (DB Rank: 9 State Rank: 34)
– A new commit to the Rebels, Groves has been a name on the recruiting scene for a long time now and is headed into his final year of high school ball before taking his talents to the SEC. Groves has the size, length and athletic traits to succeed but he must fully embrace playing safety to further his career.
* Committed to Ole Miss *
‘22 (CB/S) Kenzy Paul Kenzy Paul 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB McCallie | 2022 State TN (6’1 185) – McCallie (DB Rank: 10 State Rank: 36)
– A native of Canada, Paul burst onto the scene last Fall and quickly became a top name to watch. Paul is a well built young man that brings a lot of value to a secondary. Vanderbilt saw that as they are bringing him in to start out at cornerback but with the possibility of moving back to safety.
* Committed to Vanderbilt *
‘22 (CB/S) Mikeece Jones Mikeece Jones 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Hillsboro | 2022 State TN (6’0 185) – Hillsboro (DB Rank: 11 State Rank: 40)
– Jones has been on the recruiting scene for several years now as a versatile defender that could be plugged into multiple roles within the secondary. He sports several strong offers but has yet to pull the trigger. A big senior year could take his recruitment to another level.
‘22 (S) Roland McGhee Roland McGhee 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Ensworth | 2022 State TN (6’1 185) – Ensworth (DB Rank: 12 State Rank: 44)
– This is one of the biggest risers of anyone from the 2022 class as McGhee has gone from unknown to a Toledo commit and one the more versatile, athletic DB’s that we have in this state. A track star with big time speed, McGhee is not only high quality on the field but high character off the field as well.
* Committed to Toledo *
‘22 (CB/S) Alex Ford Alex Ford 6'0" | 185 lbs | DB Father Ryan | 2022 State TN (6’0 180) – Father Ryan (DB Rank: 13 State Rank: 49)
– Ford joins alongside Reed at Father Ryan to form possibly the most formidable DB duo in the entire state but he still is looking for a college home. Ford is a well built young man that has a lot of position versatility. He holds several FCS offers but is holding out for those D1, P5 schools to come calling.
‘22 (CB/S) LaMarion Pierce LaMarion Pierce 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Marshall Co. | 2022 State TN (6’0 175) – Marshall Co. (DB Rank: 14 State Rank: 51)
– A one time hidden gem, Pierce is no longer unknown as this offseason he worked and earned his status as one of the more athletic cornerbacks in this state. His strong offseason led Pierce to earning several D1 & FCS offers but he remains available, hoping a big senior year leads to more interest.
‘22 (NB/S) A.G. McGhee A.G. McGhee 5'10" | 185 lbs | DB Oakland | 2022 FL (5’11 185) – Oakland (DB Rank: 15 State Rank: 55)
– A feisty, aggressive ball hawk with position versatility, McGhee is a guy you want on your defense because his motor never stops. This Murfreesboro native could very well push himself with a strong senior season out of his commitment to Marshall and into bigger opportunities.
* Committed to Marshall *
‘22 (NB/S) Charles Ingram IV (5’11 180) – Ensworth (DB Rank: 16 State Rank: 57)
– Ingram is a multi talented, versatile prospect that could play RB in college (he plans to play there this year) but translates best in the secondary. He is a smart, well trained athlete that could play CB, NB or S in college. Ingram could also be a standout on special teams as well.
‘22 (CB/S) Kaleb Almo Kaleb Almo 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB P.U.R.E. Academy | 2022 State TN (6’1 190) – P.U.R.E. Academy (DB Rank: 17 State Rank: 59)
– Almo made a smart decision by reclassifying and making the move to PURE for the 2021 season. That move has already paid off by Almo receiving several offers, including a few from the D1 level. This is a big and aggressive DB that can play corner or safety on the collegiate level.
‘22 (S) Jeremiah Jordan Jeremiah Jordan 6'2" | 190 lbs | DB Cordova | 2022 State TN (6’1 190) – Cordova (DB Rank: 18 State Rank: 61)
– Jordan is a talented prospect that finally saw his work go noticed this offseason by performing well during camps and eventually earning several college offers. The Wolves stud defender brings size, athleticism and versatility to the secondary. Jordan could play corner but works best in the back end at safety.
‘22 (S) Dylan King Dylan King 6'3" | 185 lbs | DB Oakland | 2022 State TN (6’3 185) – Oakland (DB Rank: 19 State Rank: 65)
– King is a tall, long and athletic safety that can move down and play in the box and play the “Star” position in college. He holds a few offers currently, a few from the D1 ranks but King has yet to see those big offers come his way. A big senior season could definitely change that.
‘22 (CB/S) Javis Mynatt Javis Mynatt 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Knox. Catholic | 2022 State TN (6’0 175) – Knox. Catholic (DB Rank: 20 State Rank: 71)
– Already establishing himself as one of the top DB prospects from the East Tennessee area, Mynatt is an aggressive and athletic guy that could play a variety of roles within the secondary. He is already an offered guy but Mynatt is waiting for and is talented enough for bigger interest.
‘22 (CB/S) JaQuez Bradley JaQuez Bradley 6'2" | 180 lbs | DB Whitehaven | 2022 State TN (6’2 180) – Whitehaven (DB Rank: 21 State Rank: 77)
– Bradley is one defensive back that I am excited to watch this year, especially after not being able to play his junior season. He sports a lot of traits and tools that scream college football but he is still a ways off from maxing out. Bradley is a talented guy that could warrant bigger interest in the coming months.
‘22 (CB/S) Isaac Rollins Isaac Rollins 5'11" | 185 lbs | DB Ravenwood | 2022 State TN (5’11 185) – Ravenwood (DB Rank: 22 State Rank: 81)
– Rollins is an interesting talent that has shown traits at being one of the best man to man cover guys that we have in this state. His work ethic is the lone thing that holds Rollins back from reaching his maximum capabilities. If and when everything finally clicks in for Rollins is the moment he takes the next step with his game.
‘22 (S) Jaden Lyles Jaden Lyles 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Lipscomb Academy | 2022 State TN (6’0 180) – Lipscomb Academy (DB Rank: 23 State Rank: 84)
– The Mustangs defense should be pretty stout this year and one of those key pieces will be Lyles. A well built, physical guy, Lyles is a versatile, athletic prospect that could play offense in college but his body and game translates best to the next level at safety.
‘22 (CB/S) Isaiah Lang Isaiah Lang 6'2" | 175 lbs | DB David Crockett | 2022 State TN (6’2 175) – David Crockett (DB Rank: 24 State Rank: 87)
– Lang is a hidden gem from the East Tennessee region that I expect to bust loose this coming season and work himself into multiple offers. The Pioneers rising senior is tall, long and athletic along with having versatility to play just about anywhere in the secondary.
‘22 (S) Brady Pierce Brady Pierce 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Summit | 2022 State TN (6’0 180) – Summit (DB Rank: 25 State Rank: 99)
– A deceptive athlete that is always around the ball, Pierce is one of the more underrated talents we have in the 2022 class. He is an aggressive, smart and heady ball hawk that plays with tremendous instincts. Pierce is a winner too, so he brings a lot of value to the field and locker room.
