#TN2022 Rankings: Stock Risers
In this article:
The Fall football season is right around the corner, with summer camps in full effect, so it was prime time to update our 2022 Prospect Rankings.
Spreaded throughout our new senior class rankings are several prospects who took advantage of their offseason work and developed their games even further.
Here are the guys who saw their #PRZTN rankings take a big spike during our recent updated version.
(DB) Kody Jones Kody Jones 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Germantown | 2022 State TN – Germantown: #10th to #6th
– Jones made this list not because of his move up in the rankings but more so for establishing himself as the top in-state cornerback recruit for the 2022 class. Jones is a big time athlete that could excel on either side of the ball but has strong upside on defense at cover corner. Currently committed to Michigan, Jones is an elite talent with his best football ahead of him.
(Ath) Shannon Blair Shannon Blair 6'0" | 175 lbs | ATH Knox. West | 2022 State TN – Knox. West: #42nd to #13th
– A natural athlete with two-way talents, Blair is a dynamic prospect that took advantage of the offseason and worked himself into one of the top 20 overall in-state prospects for the 2022 class. Blair has major potential, especially on the defensive side of the ball where he has the tools and upside to develop as a lockdown cover corner. Blair recently committed to Michigan St.
(QB) Luther Richesson Luther Richesson 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Lipscomb Academy | 2022 State TN – Lipscomb Academy: Unranked to #20th
– Richesson is not only one of the fastest risers in the state but also the entire country. Coming off a strong performance at the Elite 11 finals, Richesson has all the tools that Power Five coaches look for in their quarterbacks. He has seen several offers come his way over the spring, summer but watch for more to arrive soon, probably before the start of the upcoming season.
(OT) Grayson Morgan Grayson Morgan 6'6" | 270 lbs | OL MBA | 2022 State TN – MBA: Unranked to #23rd
– This Big Red budding star is one of the biggest risers of all prospects in the state of Tennessee and is primed to ink his name with a Power Five school come signing day. Morgan is dripping with upside and collegiate coaches love the tools he has to mold and develop on the next level. He still has weight to add but the frame is there to man left tackle in the collegiate game.
(DB) James Reed III James Reed III 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Father Ryan | 2022 State TN – Father Ryan: #53rd to #24th
– Newly committed to Arkansas State, Reed made one of the biggest moves up the rankings due to his strong offseason work in 7v7 and camp action. The Fighting Irish star defender missed his junior year due to injury but certainly made up for it this offseason by establishing himself as one of the best cover corners in the entire state.
(TE) Jackson Long Jackson Long 6'5" | 220 lbs | TE Beech | 2022 State TN – Beech: #128th to #26th
– Long went from unranked to one of the top offensive talents in the 2022 class this spring by showing off his size, speed and strong hands. The Buccaneers top returning receiver is poised for a big senior season after putting himself on the recruiting map this offseason and backing up the P5 and D1 offers he already has in hand.
(TE) Andrew Paige Andrew Paige 6'4" | 210 lbs | TE Beech | 2022 State TN – Beech: Unranked to #30th
– A former basketball player transitioning fully to football, Paige is a big time prospect that Power Five schools are beginning to learn about. What makes Paige so interesting is the fact he is still raw with the game of football but has shown in workouts and camps that he is more advanced than some may think. If he doesn’t commit soon, expect a big surge of recruitment for this Bucs pass catcher.
(DB) Roland McGhee Roland McGhee 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Ensworth | 2022 State TN – Ensworth: #88th to #44th
– Recently committed to Toledo, McGhee jumped onto the scene this spring and quickly made a name for himself. Tall and long with a big radius, McGhee is a versatile defensive back that translates to college at safety but has the speed and smarts to play other positions in the secondary. McGhee is a track star too, so the guy can definitely run!
(DB) LaMarion Pierce LaMarion Pierce 5'11" | 180 lbs | DB Marshall Co. | 2022 State TN – Marshall Co.: #133rd to #51st
– Pierce definitely put himself on the map this spring as he hit up multiple camps and dominated. His performances this offseason certainly put him on the map to be recruited but also be considered one of the top cover corner prospects in the entire state. Pierce is a big time athlete that is still developing his game and body.
(Ath) Reid Williford Reid Williford 6'2" | 195 lbs | ATH CPA | 2022 State TN – CPA: #93rd to #58th
– The spring and summer offseason has been nothing but outstanding for Williford as he has received multiple D1 offers and could be on the verge of adding more. The Lions two-way talent made a rise up the ranks due to his overall athleticism, versatility and physical prowess. Williford brings a lot of value to the football field and the locker room.
(DB) Kaleb Almo Kaleb Almo 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB P.U.R.E. Academy | 2022 State TN – P.U.R.E. Academy: Unranked to #59th
– A former member of the 2021 class but now re-classified, Almo has made the move very profitable becoming one of the top 20 defensive backs prospects now for the crop of 2022. The big and physical defensive back has the tools to reach the next level and perform very well. College coaches have taken notice!
(DB) Jeremiah Jordan Jeremiah Jordan 6'2" | 190 lbs | DB Cordova | 2022 State TN – Cordova: #112th to #61st
– This will more than likely not be the last time Jordan rises up the #PRZTN rankings before the 2022 cycle is done and over with. This Memphis area defensive back has made the full move over to defense and it has paid off this summer with multiple offers and interest coming from several high quality programs. Watch out for Jordan as the Fall season comes along.
(Ath) Derek Taylor Derek Taylor 6'4" | 200 lbs | ATH Greenbrier | 2022 State TN – Greenbrier: Unranked to #63rd
– Taylor is one of the more interesting talents in the 2022 class due to his size, length and versatility. He is definitely a Division 1 prospect that deserved to be ranked and his placement at 63rd could rise even further with strong senior film and continued development with his game. Taylor has loads of upside that is far from reaching its maximum capabilities.
(QB) Jake McNamara Jake McNamara 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Page | 2022 State TN – Page: Unranked to 64th
– Currently committed to Colorado State, McNamara rose up these rankings as this offseason he displayed his ability to make accurate passes along with smart decision making. The Patriots star signal caller may not have the ideal size but that doesn’t matter as he plays much bigger and with a lot of poise.
(LB) Major Newman Major Newman 6'3" | 190 lbs | LB Alcoa | 2022 State TN – Alcoa: #123rd to #68th
– Newman has been a big surprise this spring and summer by adding several D1, FCS offers and taking a big leap in the #PRZTN new 2022 rankings. The Tornadoes senior defender is an intriguing talent that is being recruited to the next level as a guy who can play that new role on defense called “Star”. Newman is far from a finished product but has major upside.
(LB) Ben Bolton Ben Bolton 6'3" | 215 lbs | LB Lausanne | 2022 State TN – Lausanne: Unranked to #74th
– The 2021 offseason has been big for Bolton thus far as not only has he established himself as a college recruitable prospect but also has worked himself into one of the top linebackers in-state. Bolton has received several offers thus far but has yet to see the D1 interest come his way. That should change with a big senior season.
(LB) Caulen Dunn Caulen Dunn 6'1" | 210 lbs | LB Collierville | 2022 State TN – Collierville: Unranked to #79th
– Dunn is a recent addition to the Dragons football team and the state of Tennessee. Last month at the TSU Roar City Mega Camp, Dunn put himself on the map as a force to watch this coming Fall season. The Tigers of TSU offered Dunn after the camp but expect to see several others get on board soon.
(OG/C) Darius Gordon Darius Gordon 6'3" | 290 lbs | OL Huntingdon | 2022 State TN – Huntingdon: Unranked to #80th
– This is a new name to the rankings after jumping on the radar earlier this spring. Gordon is a powerful people mover that plays with explosion and gets to the 2nd level very well. Yet to receive his 1st offer, Gordon is a true hidden gem that should see an in-flux of recruiting in the near future, especially with updated senior film.
