The second installment of our series will cover five different athletes who we have watched film on and graded. These athletes had good seasons in 2020, but look for them to have an even better season in 2021. Each player is graded on a scale of 1-5. Five being equivalent to “baller” and one of our top dogs. The first player in this installment takes us to Auburn, Alabama.
Justin Gullatte: Auburn High School – LB
Justin has good field awareness. He is not scared to hit anyone. Can evade a block/spill and get in position to make that big sack or tackle for loss. He has football smarts and can make the big plays when needed. He had a really good showing at the Georgia Tech camp this summer. He’s right at about 5’10, 195lbs, and is a missile when he’s coming downhill to make the play. Give this guy a follow @justin_gullatte. Definitely a guy to watch in 2021. Grade: Solid 3.5
Charles Nelms: Auburn High School – DL
This cat is a big boy. Clocking in at around 5’10, 365; he can do some real damage to an offense. he has a quick first step and dominates the line of scrimmage. He’s a workhorse in the trenches. For a big boy, he’s got very good mechanics. With two studs like Justin and Charles on defense, coming off of a runner-up season in 2020, look for Auburn High School to make some noise again in 2021. Go show this guy some love @charlesnelms17. Charles is given a well-deserved grade of 3.5 – 4.
Jacob Galmiche: Daphne High School – OG, OC
Jacob plays center a majority of the time. He snaps the ball really well and blows off the line of scrimmage and creates holes for the running back. He has very good pass protection and footwork. He rarely got beat from the film we’ve seen. He’s a very solid lineman and could be a big asset to any team. I see Jacob having a stellar year in 2021, and with a guy like him paving the way, look for Daphne to be able to run the ball well. His Twitter is @galmichejacob. I give him a grade of 3.5-4 and fully believe that by the end of the season he could be at a 4 or above. Really solid player.
Jack Baylor: Pinson Valley High School – ILB
This kid is a HOSS. He lays the wood to guys. He has a great frame and build for an inside linebacker. he has a great read step and ball awareness. He fits well in his gap and understands football. Would look to him to be the “coach on the field” in 2021. Watching this kid play will fire you up. He was at Spain Park in 2020 but will be with the defending 6A State Champs this season at Pinson Valley. Definitely look this guy up, @jbaylor03. I give this guy a grade of 4.
Cayson Zackery: Hewitt Trussville High School – WR
Cayson is a good-sized kid. He is tall, has good hands, has the look of a solid WR. He is a good route runner and creates good separation between himself and the defender. He is a QB’s best friend when it comes to throwing the deep ball. He is very athletic. With receivers like Ryan Shoop and Cayson Zackery, keep your eye on the Huskies this year as they have a chance to make a run at the 7A state title. Cayson stands at 6’2, 180. Keep up with him this season, @cayson_zackery. I give him a grade of 4.
With the second installment now in the books be on the lookout for Part 3. Keep an eye on all of these guys and these teams this season.
Friday nights under the lights is a great place to be in Alabama. See you there!
