Over week 1 these were the top performing DBs, CBs and Safeties in the Central Kentucky area ;
1) David King DB #16 Sr. (Fern Creek)
David is your prototype DB he gets in every play, and completes it. Jeffersontown scored 0 points in week 1 and one reason is King wouldn’t allow anything down the middle be short passes or inside runs. David has a knack for finding the ball carrier and getting some hit on him, King is Fern Creek’s best defensive player in week 1.
2) Devon Rogers #4 QB/DB Jr. (John Hardin)
Devon Rogers was accountable for 5 TD’s in the season opener. Getting 2 passing TDs, 3 Rushing TDs, and a pick-six. Also racking up 258 total yards, 105 rushing, 96 passing, and 56 from 2 interception returns. Rogers is a player with a future and has all the tools and weapons to succeed, Devon can play DB effectively, run effectively, and the little passing he did do led to success. The problem is finding what he is best at, because he excels at everything, a true athlete and leader for the Bulldogs.
3) Thomas Walker-Keishan WR/DB #9 Sr. (Eastern)
Double digit tackles is rare to get, especially in a close game, but through everything that the Defense went through yesterday, Thomas was a obvious obstacle for KY country Day. Almost all of the tackles were just him starting and finishing plays on defense, once he started getting tackles he’d go on streaks, sometimes being the sole reason for 3 and outs. Thomas Walker-Kelshan kept this game in distance for Eastern and was a great player to watch.
4) Micah Pames #3 DB Sr. (North Hardin)
Micah was holding his own with the deep and outside routes, as he was targeted multiple times. He couldn’t defend every pass, but in the red zone that is another story. He was saving his team with several clutch pass defenses. Was very careful as I don’t remember seeing a flag thrown for PI all night against the Trojans. All while larger receivers are his matchups. Despite the loss Micah showed he can play undersized cornerback by being the best pass defender for the Trojans in week 1.
5) Mason Thompson #27 RB/DB Sr. (Central Hardin)
Thompson was the Bruins leader for yards (98) and tackles (7), earning the top spot in week 1. Mason was all over the field for Central Hardin, and showed he can be a leader on both sides of the ball. A truly versatile player, with plenty of stamina. His plays speaks for itself, Mason Thompson is a prospect to keep up with through the season on both offense and defense.
6) Ahlyus Durret DB #4 Jr. (Western)
Nearly broke free for a pick-6, Durrett was hunting for the interception all game and a follow up once he finally got one. A ball hawk, always back peddling until the ball is thrown then he tracks it tries to swoop in for the save or steal. Ahlyus has a playstyle that is very safe and effective, someone who is always waiting for the offense to over throw or have a pass tipped up.
7) Kieran McMurray WR/DB #6 Sr. (Western)
2 Tackles and 3 receptions in total, McMurray had a positive impact on this team and was looking to have more. After playing both sides of the ball Kieran still has plenty left in the tank, always prepared and ready to go for each moment, McMurray has a sense of urgency for the moments he is called upon to make plays for Western. A player who will be called upon more and will deliver again.
8) Connor Hodge DB #1 Fr. (Christen Academy of Louisville)
Connor being the only player to intercept the ball in week 1, and had a couple tackles. What puts him on this list is he is a freshman and has a brother at QB, this kid will have alot of game knowledge and be much improved in the game by his senior year, plenty of room to build onto a great start into his HS football career.
9) Blake Pedley #15 DB Jr. (Bullitt Central)
Blake was always finishing a play, getting behind the line to assist on the only sack of the game, he also assisted on 3 other tackles. Blake was helping the defense by always staying free of blocks and getting to the ball fast. Pedley has plenty to show for the remainder of the season, and next, as he is only a junior.
10) Cayden Logsdon #17 CB Sr. (North Hardin)
Cayden was good at adjusting and playing both man and zone effectively. Logsdon is a player who comes prepared to the line each time. When South Warren played no huddle, Cayden was set every time ready, never having stamina or any injury problems and playing some of the top ranked guys in the state, holding his own this senior was a great pass coverage DB with plenty of promise to shine throughout the season.
