MARK THE CALENDARS
October 8th – Beggs AT Metro Christian
The first of two very big games coming on October 8th in week six features two-time defending champ Metro Christian hosting Beggs. These two have developed quite the rivalry over the last several seasons. Beggs eliminated the Patriots in the 2018 semifinals. Ever since then, the Patriots have been the kings of Class 2A. Beggs is looking to get back into the championship conversation and the first step to doing that would be getting a win over Metro Christian. Both teams played a very low-scoring game in their meeting last year, with Metro winning a close one. Coming into this year, we expect a shootout as both teams have plenty of firepower at their disposal on the offensive side of the ball.
October 8th – Community Christian AT Washington
The second of two massive games featuring top five teams on October 8th will see Washington hosting Community Christian. Washington made it all the way to the state championship game a year ago but fell short to Metro Christian. The Warriors have reloaded and appear to be ready for another deep run in November. However, standing in their way could be Community Christian. The Royals surprised everyone a year ago with their big season that ended with not only a playoff appearance, but their first playoff victory in school history. With almost everyone returning for this year, the Royals will be wanting so much more in 2021. That will start with potentially grabbing the district title, at Washington’s expense.
October 22nd – Jones AT Millwood
Our final marquee match-up features Jones and Millwood. Just like with the other two match-up’s, this one features two teams that are ranked in the top six of this year’s preseason rankings. Just like with the other match-up’s, this one will more than likely decide who will be capturing the district championship. It will also be a massive clash of styles as Millwood will want to run the ball with their two-headed monster in the backfield of junior

NOTABLE STORYLINES
2A Is The Deepest Class Yet Again
We’ve written about this a few times but it remains to be one of the top storylines in the class. A few years ago, Class 3A became a 32-team class, dropping plenty of really good teams into Class 2A. Really ever since that time, Class 2A has become arguably the deepest and competitive class in the state. Now, the last two years, Metro has been the kings of the mountain but in our opinion, this is the deepest class in the state. Despite Metro’s success, we’ve seen several teams that have been contenders for several years now. When we did our preseason rankings, and really when we do our rankings every week this season, Class 2A will be one of the toughest ones to rank. The top ten rankings right now are absolutely stacked with teams that could end up making deep runs into the playoffs. Then you have teams on the outside looking in that are just as dangerous and it wouldn’t surprise us at all if they end up in the rankings, not only this season, but very soon this season. Teams like Atoka, Bethel, Cascia Hall, Chandler, Christian Heritage and Victory Christian are not in the top ten but could cause plenty of damage. It wouldn’t be surprising to see any of these teams end up in the top ten throughout the season. Class 2A has been one of our favorite classes to watch over the last few years because of it’s depth and this year is no different.
So Long Metro Christian
This will be the fourth year that Metro Christian competes in Class 2A and it will also be the final year. With the recent redistricting, the two-time defending champs will be headed up to Class 3A next year. it’s been a pretty good run to say the least for the Patriots. They made it to the semifinals in 2018, won back to back titles in 2019 and 2020 and they’re the preseason #1 team in 2A this year, with a quarterback who could be one of the best in Oklahoma in

. However, no matter what happens this fall, whether it’s a third straight title or an early playoff exit, Metro Christian will be competing in Class 3A next year. We won’t dive fully into that storyline as it’s more of a 2022 problem, but Metro will be road warriors for the next two years with the district they’re in. As for this year, Metro is once again the team to beat in Class 2A. As mentioned above, the district will be tough as they do have a Beggs team in their district who has become one of their main rivals while in Class 2A. The playoff gauntlet will once again be tough. However, we made the mistake last year of thinking that Metro couldn’t do it again. We won’t be making that mistake this year. Until someone knocks them off, they’re the champs.
