There are numerous variables which go into who is selected, including the team’s overall success. Have a look at who I would have as the PIL’s leading candidates for POY heading into the season.
OFFENSE
Justius Lowe Justius Lowe 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Lincoln | 2022 State OR 22’ WR Lincoln-One of the fastest rising recruits in Oregon. Lowe had his way with most of the PIL schools, catching 5 TD passes, while adding four offers from Big Sky programs over the off season.
Donald Stephens Jr. 23’ RB Grant- Expect a big year from Chili who broke out as a freshman, putting together some impressive film in limited time. The Generals have a loaded backfield, but if DSJ gets his carries he could do special things.
Imarion Kelly Imarion Kelly 6'2" | 185 lbs | ATH Roosevelt | 2022 State OR 22’ QB/ATH Roosevelt- Kelly has size and is one of the most versatile kids in the state. Expect him to be one of the league and maybe even state leaders in total yards, as he will continuously have the ball in his hands.
Jae’Sean Pete Jae’Sean Pete 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Grant | 2022 State OR 22’ ATH Grant- Pete broke out as a Sophomore earning 2nd team all-conference accolades. He is more of a slot, and deadly in space. Look for him to move out on the perimeter and also be listed as one of the top return men in Oregon.
Dondrae Fair Dondrae Fair 6'0" | 180 lbs | QB Jefferson | 2022 State OR 22’ QB Jefferson- Fair is special and has some of that “it” factor. It will come down to how Jeff does as a team and whether or not he is able to exploit some of his unique ability. His early D1 offers from the likes of Indiana speak to his potential.
DEFENSE
Brady Kopetz Brady Kopetz 6'4" | 215 lbs | LB Lincoln | 2022 State OR 22’ LB Lincoln- Look for Koptez to add a handful of additional D1 offers before he is done. The 3* LB has the size (6-4 220) and demeanor to be considered one of the top backers in the west with continued progression.
Jayden Moses Jayden Moses 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB Grant | 2023 State OR 23’ RB/LB Grant- Moses had an outstanding Sophomore season, after being the only player at the 6A level to earn all-conference honors as a freshman. He is physical, fast and plays with a no non sense demeanor.
Trejon Williams Trejon Williams 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Jefferson | 2022 State OR 22’ DB Jefferson- Currently a 4* recruit and the #1 ranked player in Oregon for the class of 2022. Trejon’s accolades will be dependent upon how Jeff does as a team and whether or not they can come together. His ranking speaks for itself.
Max Von Arx Max Von Arx 6'4" | 205 lbs | WR Grant | 2022 State OR 22’ WR/LB Grant- Really like this kid. Not a lot of people know about him, but he could be one of the top two-way threats in the state. His overall athleticism and size (6-4 210) will help make him one of the most dominant players in the PIL.
Kenny Duncan Kenny Duncan 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Roosevelt | 2022 State OR 22’ DB Roosevelt- Look for Duncan Jr. to be one of the PIL statistical leaders defensively. Coach McCants has done a great job and will have special senior leadership, led by the likes of Duncan, Kelly and Lindell Betts Lindell Betts 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Roosevelt | 2022 OR .
