As stated previously the order referenced below of each athlete does not directly reflect his recruitment. You can be the #1 ranked player in the state and not be a Conference POY favorite. There are numerous variables which go into who is selected, including the team’s overall success. Have a look at who I would have as the TRL’s leading candidates for Offensive POY heading into the season.
1. Ryan Oliver Ryan Oliver 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Lakeridge | 2023 State OR 23’ QB Lakeridge- I think Oliver will be in the Oregon 6A POY conversation when all is said and done. He will have some of the top targets state wide to throw to, with a good line. He hit on 62% of his passes with 12 TDs/2 INTs during the shortened 5 game spring season. Expect him to be a major D1 recruit
2. Cole Prusia Cole Prusia 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB Tualatin | 2022 State OR 22’ WR Tualatin- The returning Oregon Gatorade POY will draw a ton of attention from defenses, as you can expect the ball to be spread around, with all of the D1 projected athletes on the T-Wolves perimeter. Prusia will offset #s for Tualatin all year as man coverage won’t work.
3. Jackson Jones Jackson Jones 6'0" | 190 lbs | QB Tualatin | 2022 State OR 22’ QB Tualatin- The returning unanimous 1st team all-league QB could easily end up the POY within the TRL if Tualatin meets expectations. People are expecting a lot from Jones after leading the state in TDs (18) with 1,484 passing yards during the Spring. He is a D1 kid will all of the tools to help Tualatin win a title.
4. Gabe Olvera Gabe Olvera 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Lake Oswego | 2022 State OR 22’ RB Lake Oswego- It would not surprise me at all to see Olvera end up the TRL Player of the Year. He had the best Spring of any player on this list, going for 200+ yards and multiple TDs numerous times. The biggest difference now is that every team will prepare and make someone other than Olvera beat them.
5. Joey Olsen Joey Olsen 6'6" | 220 lbs | TE Lakeridge | 2024 State OR 24’ WR Lakeridge- One of the top receivers in the nation for the 2024 class. Look for Olsen to be a 1000+ yard receiver with double digit TDs, after catching 22 passes for 355 yards and 4 TDs as a freshman. Something unheard of, especially in the state’s toughest conference.
6. AJ Perez AJ Perez 6'3" | 170 lbs | WR Clackamas | 2023 State OR 23’ WR Tigard- Remember the name as Perez broke out as a Sophomore. I don’t see Tigard competing for a conference title this year. The transfer of Oregon top WR Keenan Speer-Johnson Keenan Speer-Johnson 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Tigard | 2022 State OR to Mountainside is a tough loss for the program, but should make AJ the primary target.
7. Malik Ross Malik Ross 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Tualatin | 2022 State OR 22’ ATH Tualatin- Ross is a phenomenal overall athlete who can play at the division 1 level on either side of the football. It will be interesting to see how the T-Wolves use him with all of their weapons. Regardless the kid is a threat to go the distance any time he has the ball in his hands.
8. Mark Hamper Mark Hamper 6'2" | 205 lbs | ATH West Linn | 2023 State OR 23’ ATH West Linn- Look for a big year out of Hamper, after having a nice Sophomore campaign which saw him go for 100+ yards on multiple occasions. With their undefeated, and incredibly talented #1 ranked senior class gone, he will have many more opportunities.
9. Baylor Corbin Baylor Corbin 6'2" | 175 lbs | ATH Lakeridge | 2023 State OR 23’ WR Lakeridge- Corbin’s another kid who could go for over 1000+ yards and 10 TD’s this season, with Oliver projected to light up the scoreboard. His 25 receptions for 332 yards in 5 games puts his overall potential into perspective, earning honorable mention all-conference accolades last year.
10. Jack Layne Jack Layne 6'2" | 190 lbs | QB Lake Oswego | 2022 State OR 22’ QB Lake Oswego- I thought Layne had one of the best Springs of any QB state wide. Coach Coury always has his guys dialed, and Jack will have some of the best players in the state to distribute the ball to.
