We wanted to put the spotlight on some of the newcomers on the offensive and defensive lines who made our newest set of rankings in York and Lancaster Counties. Check out our Newcomers article for some of the skill guys in York County.
Clover – OT Hagan Smith Hagan Smith 6'6" | 315 lbs | OL Clover | 2022 State SC
Hudl highlight film from game vs. Northwestern
Analysis: Smith primarily plays at the guard position and he looks bigger once you see him in person. He plays under control at the position with good knee bend, not allowing the defensive lineman to get any penetration in the backfield. In fact, there was one time on film where he brought a lineman to the ground. He holds an offer from Erskine College.
Lancaster – DL Fred Twitty Fred Twitty 6'3" | 250 lbs | DL Lancaster | 2022 State SC
Hudl highlight film from game vs. Fairfield Central
Analysis: Twitty pursues with a purpose and won’t stop until the quarterback is brought down for a sack, like we saw on film. But he can also clog up the middle against the run. He may not be able to get in and directly impact the play but his influence can allow others on the defensive line to get in and finish off the back.
Fort Mill – DL Charlie Veltri Charlie Veltri 6'3" | 285 lbs | DL Fort Mill | 2022 State SC
Hudl highlight film from game vs. Chester
Analysis: The thing that stood out about Veltri, especially in watching his highlight against Chester is his ability to pursue plays from behind. He may not be able to get to the quarterback, but he will relentlessly chase it down. He can also play on the offensive line and provide the quarterback with some extra time to make something happen on a pass play.
Rock Hill – DL Maurice Bonneau Maurice Bonneau 6'2" | 220 lbs | DL Rock Hill | 2022 State SC
Hudl highlight film from game vs. Greenville
Analysis: Bonneau makes fighting off blocks look simple as he can consistently make tackles in space and wins the battle at the LOS. He has a great spin move to get to the quarterback and is one of those lineman that pursues with a purpose. He currently holds an offer from Benedict College in Columbia, S.C.
Fort Mill – DE Miller Shouse Miller Shouse 6'1" | 235 lbs | DL Fort Mill | 2022 State SC
Hudl highlight film from game vs. Lugoff Elgin
Analysis: We have Shouse listed as a defensive end but he’s been all over the place making an impact over the first few weeks of the season, which is why we added him into the rankings. In Friday’s game against Lugoff Elgin, he was used at defensive lineman and linebacker and he showed his ability to pressure the quarterback and while he may not have gotten the sack, he affected the throw. The Lugoff Elgin run game was not able to get past the LOS much when Shouse was involved.
