The Eagles of Atascocita came in undefeated to face a Guyer squad who also hadn’t lost a game. The Eagles have been a powerhouse program out of the Houston area for the last few years and have been on the brink of making it to a state final but haven’t been able to get over the hump. This year’s team has set out to change that narrative and came into the Guyer game determined to send a message around the state that they are a contender. We will spotlight several difference makers who will be a the forefront of the Eagles continued success in 2021.
Gavin Session (QB) C/O 2022
Session is a gunslinger. He has a strong arm, stands tall in the pocket on his toes, moves well in the pocket, throws well on the run and has the athletic ability to make defenders miss in the open field. Gavin can make the difficult throws look easy. On his first TD toss to Chase Sowell, he used great touch on a perfect corner route in the endzone for six and the ball was in the wideouts hands when he broke his route. Late in the fourth quarter Session hit Sowell on a 72 yard bomb on the money, displaying his arm strength. He is an elite runner, who has the speed to go the distance, can cut on a dime, and has the power to break tackles. Session also had a short TD run from the one yard line in the first the half. Gavin is a playmaker, plays with supreme confidence and sets the pace for the Eagle offense. Session has next level talent that colleges seek out.
Chase Sowell (WR) C/O 2022
The senior wideout is impressive. Sowell runs crisp routes, is a hands catcher of the football who doesn’t let the ball get deep into his body, he has large hands, long arms with great reach, and has the speed to take the top off of a defense. At 6’3-’6’4 185 lbs., Chase uses his body position well to fend off defenders and excels at the 50/50 ball when its thrown his way. Sowell has the next level frame to add muscle to his build once he gets into a program and his stock on the recruiting trail has taken off this season. Chase has taken visits to Texas, Indiana and picked up an offers from UTSA and Sam Houston State. Chase is also a two sport star and is a baseball prospect for the Eagle baseball team.
Keith Wheeler Keith Wheeler 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Atascocita | 2022 State TX (WR) C/O 2022
Wheeler is “Mr. Consistency”!!! A four year varsity player, three starter, knows how to get open, and is a first down waiting to happen anytime he makes a reception. Keith is a physical blocker who takes pride in making defenders feel him in the Eagle run game. Wheeler has a knack of making a big play at the right time. Keith is a route technician, knows how to find the soft spots in a defense, snatches the ball out of air with authority, has the ability to get deep and the speed to make a house call at any time. You can line Wheeler at any receiver spot and he will make plays, which shows his versatility. Keith has all the tools college programs are searching for and has the frame to add bulk. A multi- sport athlete, Wheeler excels on the baseball diamond , as well as Track and Field. Wheeler has offers from Houston, Tulsa and Arkansas.
Kam Dewberry Kam Dewberry 6'4" | 315 lbs | OL Atascocita | 2022 State TX (OT) C/O 2022
Dewberry is one of the best lineman in the country and definitely in the state. He possesses size, strength, speed, he has off the charts agility, and his ability to move quickly to the second level when blocking makes him dangerous and a valuable commodity. He has been the starting right tackle at Atascocita for four years. Dewberry has a nasty streak that can’t be coached and takes pride in pancaking defenders. Kam has narrowed his final five list down to: Ohio State, A&M, LSU, Bama, and UT.
Nathaniel Kibble (OT) C/O 2024
Kibble is the starting left tackle and protects Session’s blindside like a veteran. At 6’3 290, he is strong, agile for his size, plays with good leverage and once he gets his hands on a defender he is in control. Nathaniel gets upfield quickly when he pulls and gets to the second level on defensive backs in the Eagle run game quickly. Look for Kibble to continue to turn heads as the season continues. Nathaniel is an important weapon in a dangerous Atascocita offense. College recruiters should have him on their watch lists.
Braylon Conley (DB) C/O 2024
Conley has the length, size at 6’0 160 and play making ability at the cornerback position that colleges look for around the country. Braylon tackles well in the open field, plays press coverage well and is strong at the point of attack. In the Eagles first four games, Conley has gone against some of the best wideouts in the state and has held his own. This young corner is making his mark now and should continue to leave a lasting impression on Eagle opponents this season.
Bennie Qualls (DB) C/O 2022
Qualls is a veteran leader in the Atascocita secondary. He has fluid hips and diagnoses plays quickly. Bennie is versatile, can cover slot receivers, plays both safety positions, comes up to support the run like a linebacker, tackles well in the open field and is physical at the point of attack. Qualls has a nose for the ball, plays the passing lanes well and makes plays that result in turnovers for his team. Look for Qualls to continue to be a force on the back end for the Eagles. Like several of his teammates, Qualls is a two sport athlete, who committed to play college baseball for Northeast Texas Community College over the summer.
