It was #1 VS #2 in Cushing on Friday night and it lived up to the hype and we can only hope that we end up seeing these two teams meeting up again in November or even December. In the regular season meeting, it was #2 Tuttle knocking off #1 Cushing on the road 22-7. Needless to say, we’ll have a new #1 in 4A when the rankings come out on Saturday.
Tuttle would get the scoring going early in the second quarter with a short touchdown run from Canon West Canon West 5'11" | RB Tuttle | 2022 State OK to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead after the PAT was blocked. Cushing missed out on an opportunity to score right before halftime when they had the ball at the Tuttle 3-yard line but a Blaze Berlowitz Blaze Berlowitz 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Cushing | 2023 State OK pass was incomplete in the end zone. Cushing then started the third quarter with all the momentum. They would recover a deep onside kick and although they couldn’t cash in on the extra possession, Camden Crooks Camden Crooks 6'0" | 190 lbs | WR Cushing | 2023 State OK would come up with one of his two interceptions on the next Tuttle drive. Cushing would score on a short run from Noah Jones and they would lead 7-6.
Early on in the fourth quarter, West would score his second touchdown of the game with just under 11 minutes to go and then Cushing’s turnover problems would cost them big time. On the next possession, Berlowitz was hit hard and fumbled in the backfield. Tuttle would recover at the Cushing two yard line and West would punch it in on the next play to give Tuttle the 22-7 lead.
From there, Berlowitz would throw his third interception of the night and Tuttle would run out the clock and get of Cushing with the 22-7 victory. While Cushing shot themselves in the foot plenty of times with turnovers, Tuttle did plenty of shooting as well in the form of way too many penalties. However, despite all the penalties, Tuttle got out of Cushing with the 22-7 victory and they’ll now be in the driver’s seat for the district championship.

TURNING POINT
This one is an easy selection as in the span of a minute, Tuttle scored a pair of touchdowns to extend their lead to 22-7. The Tigers would score with 10:52 left and then the Berlowitz fumble being recovered at the Cushing 2-yard line would set Tuttle up with the perfect opportunity to put Cushing down for good. On the very next play, West would score his third touchdown of the game with 9:52 left in the game. Combine that with the third Cushing interception on the next possession and it was ballgame after that.

On The Big Win
“Ever since we lost to Wagoner last year, all through the offseason, we’ve had a new hunger. We want to go out and win every game. It’s one step at a time. Cushing was a great team but we knew if we played our game we would go out there and beat them. We’re going to come back home and celebrate this victory, but then it’s back to work. Rankings don’t matter to us yet. It’s early, our ultimate goal is later in the season.”
WHAT’S NEXT
Cushing: AT Classen SAS
It’ll be bounce back time for Cushing after dropping the 1 VS 2 match-up with Tuttle. It shouldn’t be a problem for the Tigers as they’ll head to Oklahoma City to take on a Classen team that has struggled so far this year. Classen was 1-2 coming into week four. The meeting in week five will be the first all time meeting between these two after last year’s game was cancelled due to Covid.
Tuttle: AT Tecumseh
The newly #1 Tuttle Tigers will have to wait to play in front of the home crowd for another week. They travel to Tecumseh in week five and they shouldn’t have a let down. Tuttle has owned the series with Tecumseh over the last seven years and the all time series. Tuttle won 40-7 last year and is 9-0 all time against the Savages.
