The stage was set for the rivalry game in Harrah against their longtime rival from five miles down the road. McLoud came in somewhat beat up but Coach Hall and the Redskins had full confidence in their ability to win the game. Harrah was looking to get above .500 coming in at 1-1 and McLoud looked to bounce back from a tough loss the previous week. The fans were into the game as Evans Field was packed 30 minutes before kickoff.
McLoud started the game getting down to the Redzone, but Harrah played tough defense and didn’t allow them to punch it in. Despite 4 fumbles by the offense from the Panthers in the 1st half they still managed to keep a zero on the visitors side of the scoreboard. Harrahs Ethan McNeil blocked a McLoud punt and the Panthers Austin Coley scored to get the first points of the contest. Late in the 2nd Quarter Harrah’s Cameron Marler hit a 32 yard FG to put Harrah up 11-0 over the Redskins. At the half despite the 4 TOs from the Panthers they led 11-0 out gaining McLoud 175-25 on offense.
The 2nd half began with McLoud fumbling the kickoff and Harrah started the drive inside their Redzone where Nick Moore would score on a 16 yard run that put them up 17-0. Tryce Lewis Tryce Lewis 6'3" | 285 lbs | OL McLoud | 2023 State OK for McLoud was playing hard all night on both sides of the ball. He caused a lot of problems for Harrah and showed why he’s one of the top lineman in the state. Unfortunately the injury bug continued to bite McLoud and put Lewis out of the game for the majority of the 2nd half which provided Harrah with an opportunity to control the game in the trenches and open things up. Marler hit another FG in the 3rd from 37 yards out that put Harrah up 20-0 and seemed to put the game out of reach. McLoud completed their first pass and got their only first down of the game in the 3rd quarter, but immediately turned the ball over at the start of the 4th Quarter. Nick Moore scored his second TD of the night for Harrah on a thirteen yard run that widened the gap to 27-0 over the Redskins. Moore put up over 200 yards on the ground for Harrah and really took advantage of McLoud losing Lewis which made the blocking for the Panthers much more effective. Harrah Nolan Boone would score a rushing TD midway through the fourth quarter to put them up 33-0 which would be the final points of the game. As rough as the game was on the offensive side of the ball for both teams, the defense for Harrah was on the opposite end of the spectrum looking dominant on their way to forcing eight fumbles six of which they recovered. McLoud definitely hoped to get healthy heading into district play while Harrah hoped to continue their dominance on the defensive side of the ball and build on what they accomplished in the second half offensively. McLoud’s head coach Rusty Hall told me before the game that he believes at full strength they believe they can make a deep run in the playoffs with the size they have up front. This game didn’t feel like an accurate representation of what the Redskins are capable of, however it did show that the Panthers have the ability on defense to win games and make them a real contender later in the season.
