Continue ReadingThe Good Counsel Falcons found themselves trailing by three touchdowns at the end of the first quarter against Mount Saint Joseph. The score remained the same at half, but once the third quarter began it was like an entirely new Good Counsel team had arrived. The offense scored at will and the defense stopped Mount St. Joseph at every turn. The Falcons showed phenomenal effort in the second half which earned them the comeback and the opportunity to turn their season around after last week’s blowout loss to St. Frances Academy. Let’s take a look at which Good Counsel players played the most pivotal roles this past Saturday.
GOOD COUNSEL
Offense:
2024 6’5 175 QB – Frankie Weaver
There has been a lot of back and forth at the quarterback position this season for Good Counsel, as Junior Neeo Avery Neeo Avery 6'6" | 230 lbs | DL Our Lady of Good Counsel | 2023 State MD started the Falcons’ last contest against St. Frances Academy. However, against Mount Saint Joseph the Falcons may have gotten the breakthrough they needed with Sophomore phenom Frankie Weaver. After the Good Counsel offense was shutout in the first half, Weaver came in and was calm, cool, and collected in the pocket which lead to twenty-nine straight points for the Falcons’ offense. While Frankie Weaver is not as skilled of a runner as Neeo Avery Neeo Avery 6'6" | 230 lbs | DL Our Lady of Good Counsel | 2023 State MD , it certainly looks like he is a more efficient thrower of the football who can distribute to various receivers with velocity and pin point accuracy. It looks like the Good Counsel Falcons might’ve just found a new starting quarterback in Frankie Weaver.
2024 6’3 190 WR – Elijah Moore Elijah Moore 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Good Counsel | 2024 State MD
Elijah Moore Elijah Moore 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Good Counsel | 2024 State MD was absolutely the offensive MVP of this contest. He connected with his classmate quarterback, Frankie Weaver, for a huge momentum shifting touchdown in the third quarter which really opened up the scoring for the Falcons in the second half. Moore caught a ton of balls in this game and the reason is because of his incredible route running ability. His crisp and clean footwork allows him to get open with ease at this level, and he is only a Sophomore and getting better each game. There’s no question that Elijah Moore Elijah Moore 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Good Counsel | 2024 State MD and Frankie Weaver could be the elite quarterback-wide receiver tandem in the entire WCAC by 2024. Watch out for Elijah Moore Elijah Moore 6'4" | 190 lbs | WR Good Counsel | 2024 State MD to continue to dominate his matchups this season and put up big numbers.
2022 6’1 165 WR – Shane Carroll
Shane Carroll remains one of the most consistent receivers in the WCAC, regardless of who is throwing him the football. He bounced back in a big way after a poor performance against St. Frances Academy where he also sustained a ginormous hit that would’ve sidelined most players for a few games. Shane Carroll is clearly as tough as any wide receiver in the country, and he proved why with yet another fantastic performance against Mount Saint Joseph. Shane Carroll will do great things at the division one level, and he will continue to shine bright this season for Good Counsel.
Defense:
2022 6’2 265 DL – Ronald Cole
The Good Counsel defense completely rejuvenated itself after the first half against Mount Saint Joseph, and Ronald Cole was a dominant force on the defensive line who made big plays for the Falcons when it mattered most. Cole’s ability to clog the gap and stop the run is second to none and it really puts the pressure on the opposing team to throw the football. Cole has the unique ability to stifle his blockers while simultaneously tying up the ball carrier for a big stop. There are few linemen on this Good Counsel squad with as much dynamic talent upfront as Ronald Cole and this was certainly one of his best performances yet. He will look to continue his strong play against St. Mary’s Ryken this upcoming Friday.
